This is the 1st music for Robbie-29, a game about a cyborg. It is 3 Mb and 3'16"

As explained in espers' signature the story is something like this:
In the Distant Future, one small service droid will learn what it means to be human.
Ã,  Ã, He will learn what it is to love.
Ã,  Ã, And he will learn the true meaning of Evil.

Well this is the part of love. The story takes place in a spacecraft (at least the first part), and this is the music background.

It is classical (for you who know about music, it is inspired by Beethoven but with different aspects...).

How, do you find the quality of the recording?

Also, do you think that this kind of music would suit a space story? The idea came from 2001: Space Odyssey, where Cubric uses classical music.

Please tell me...

This was ABSOLUTELY spectacular... It made me think of what I'm going to have to live up to in making my part of the game... It was very space opera-ish... Very cool. Very nice.

The one thing I think I would change was the flat note that comes directly at the 34-35 second mark. It's kind of jarring, I think. The procession of similar flatted notes starting at 1:13 is also kind of out of the mood. Otherwise, this is more spectacular than needs to be in a game. Call a movie producer with this one. As I sat listening to it (I still am... I think I'm going to loop this sucker all night long) I was chatting with a friend online. We were talking about some old enemies of ours from college, and I said "stop talking about those cretins. I'd rather be spewing blood from my anus." As I said it, with this music going on in the background, I felt kinda dirty, and ashamed to have said such a thing with this music playing. It's very pure, and peaceful, and sounds like good theme music for an innocent little robot. I greatly enjoyed...

Ok. i fixed everything you said (or almost), and cleaned up the overuse of reverb here.

Now,  I know (and thank rapidshare for that), that 10 people downloaded the music, played it, and hopefully enjoyed it (?)

I don't want to be pushy, but I'm used to being such a jerk: Come on, The one was esper, what about the other nine? Nobody has anything to say?

At least check the second link and tell me if this is better than the first, or if it stands "out" too much...

Paper Carnival

This is great!

Only thing I'd change was make the sound more bombastic. Also, at the second version, it sounds very bad at around 2:08. Can you make it like the first version there?

I was one of the nine I believe, and, perhaps like the others, didn't respond because I found myself in one of those situations where you listen/look at something and can't for the love of god figure out why it would appeal to anyone, though at the same time you also know that someone will probably love it.

In cases like those I just keep my opinions to myself.

Note to self: don't try to push an opinion out of loominous.

I guess since you didn't reply to my bg's for the games you thought they sucked too. Dammit, I'm setting my computer on fire right now.

Although you did say one cool thing...

I might've been one of the 9, too - I downloaded it about half an hour before you (Nikolas) posted the second version.

I don't know a great deal about music, so I was leaving it to someone more articulate, and able to give a useful critique. However, if you insist:
It was very pretty listening, but maybe a little bland. I don't really get a 'love theme' vibe from it, and nor does it really say 'space opera' to me. I think classical music can work in sci-fi settings (as in 2001, as you say) but this particular track seems to be missing something, for me. Scale, perhaps ('bombast', as Guybrush put it, might be a better word).

However, it depends a great deal on what exactly it's the musical backgroud to  - which esper is in the best position to judge, and he seems happy with it, so who am I to argue, especially since I'm tone mute.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

I have to say, that I think you are right and that you have the right to do that.
At the same time I respect you for keeping your opinion to yourself.

I sounded like a jerk on my last post (I even said so!!!), I know that. I also know that this music is difficult to appeal to anyone , after all I'm not Beethoven, I don't claim to be one, and have not even the 1/10 of his genious (I'm talking about Beethoven, cause at least to me this piece reminds me of the 2nd movement from the 5th piano concerto, anyway).

A small off-topic thing: This kind of music was written at the early 1800s so trying to writte like this now, is bound to fail. We know too much, we have too dirty minds, we have too much in our hands. Anyway the magic is gone from this kind of music. I was hoping to get the feeling of a piece like that, without having to use one. Todays music is different, and I feel imposible to writte, for example a fugue a la Bach! No way!

So anyway, I'm appologizing for pushing you into something you might not wanted to do.

I withdraw the need for more critique (unless you feel like it, hence go ahaid!)

I say sorry to everyone .

I thank esper, Guy, Loominous and Ashen fpr spending time in listening the piece and writting their posts.

And, Ashen. It is an honor to have someone who doesn't know a great deal about music, downloading your music and criticizing it, really. It doesn't matter if you're tone mute, this has nothing to do with liking or not a piece.

And finally forgive me, for being afraid of failure. You know, I've never written music for a game before (completly that is), and it is always my fear that I might do something wrong. Not with the technical part, but with the decisions I make maybe.

Thanks again, I'll think about "bombast"...

I don't know what Loominous was listening to, but I find it difficult to attribute any major flaws to this piece- it has a good, solid flow, comes across as well thought out, and has an almost lullaby-esque nature to it.  Two things I did notice were near the end of the piece, where a particularly loud key is clipped, and at the end, which seems to stop strangely.  I have been making tunes since around '94, so if this is one of your first complete pieces I think you have much to be proud of.  Good show!

Nikolas

Thank you!

the last note, forgot to mention, is in order to loop.

I tried it in Cubase and it seems to work... Esper will try it  in AGS to see if it loops nicely and if not, I'll take it out.
