Title: Help My Super Hero
Post by: magintz on Fri 08/07/2005 15:52:23
Hey all, I'm just concepting ideas for the most cliche of all super hero characters but make him look pathetic and comical at the same time. I used IGN's super hero maker to concoct this:

Also if anyone can help be transforming him into a character suitable for 640 x 400 I would appreciate it.

EDIT - UGO sorry, check it out - http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/heromachine2.asp

Maybe add reflection to his boots.

You know, the stripey part of the pants remind me of boxer shorts. Unless it's a parody or a clumsy superhero (which he doesn't look that much to me) I suggest you would either change color and/or  pattern or make them less "boxer-shorts"-y. Other than that, he's cool. You should draw superhero comics!

Like I said this is only concept using a super-hero maker. I didn't draw it, my talents aren't anywhere near as good.

The shorts are meant to be like boxer shorts, I'm aiming to get a comical looking character but am brainstorming costume ideas.

Also: How about this for the generic evil bad-guy

They look great, but not pathetic nor comical imo, for the first one you could try to change the logo on his shirt for something funnier, also adding accesories, again something that would look a bit ridiculous for a super-hero like a brush in his left hand :p i dunno...
Also making it look like he only has his boxer shorts, (drawing skin over his pants) would be pretty comical i think.

They would look great in a game, i like super-hero comics.
Btw i did this quickly, is that what you were thinking about making him suitable for 640x400?( i just resized and pixelized it)

Sorry i'm not skilled enough to do a real paint-over but i hope it helps you somehow.

For comical and pathetic, you may want to take a look at the old gem, THE Superhero League of Hoboken. Great, silly little superhero game. Or you may want to look to The Tick, in any of its various forms.

For the logo, if you'll be calling him "Justice Man", I'd reccomend a big, lame "J" or "JM".

The colours could maybe use some work, too. There's nothing really, truly WRONG with them, and that's the trouble. I'd reccomend a different colour scheme -- possibly using ugly, bright, gaudy  tones, or maybe have parts of the costume's colour scheme that really don't seem to GO with the rest of the thing. Save for the boxers, he's just not looking pathetic or comical enough for me.

As for the rest of the costume, though I know this is not your art, you may want to  consider making it look a bit more thrown-together. Probably not TOO much if you still want him to look heroic in the least, but I'd think about parts of the costume being too big.

And finally, for the boxers, when you make him, I'd be sure that you clearly chow off their boxerness, possibly with the waistband or the flap thing in the front if you  really want to go over the top.

Thanks guys. My only problem at the moment is the charcter builder is slightly limited as to what I can do. I had another attempt.

I want him to look like a respectale hero, but truely pathetic when it comes down to any sort of thought processes... Imagine if Johnny Bravo had super powers. Yea he'd look the part and have the strength and pwoers...

When I get my tablet i'll soon have all your help jotted down into a real sketch

Why not go for a cliche look that's a bit corny, like...
Captain Justus!

No cliché superhero story can do without a mysterious(ly) hot superheroine who just happens to be working for the bad guy.

lol, very nice

perhaps i can incorparate a sidekick, this would work nicely with the game... with some possible cool endings.

As for the comedy cop, I like it. The idea of some super cop goes really well. Perhaps I can come up with some nice stuff.

Step 1) Sell X-Box and Games
Step 2) Use cash to buy much needed tablet
Step 3) become uber 1337 at using tablet
Step 4) Draw characters
