Title: Help with adding legs.
Post by: Icey on Tue 26/07/2011 06:55:57
Hey all, I just started this picture however I always have this problem with legs in the position. It would be very helpful if I can get some tips for how to add the legs.

You mean in the original drawing she's behind something so you can't draw all it all the way.  ;D
But seriously, if you did this on your own, it's pretty good, maybe her torso i slightly too long and her head too big and that shoulder is quite pointy, but it is good as is ( I don't think I could've drawn it).
So anyway I tried this quickly, you didn't mention what pose you wanted or what clothes so I drew straight from where it ended and you might wanna paint over this so you get cleared lines that match the rest of the drawing, cause I just used a regular brush from PS. Hope it's what you wanted.

Yep, I drew it. And thanks a lot. That's exactly the pose I was looking for.
It's sorta hard for me to draw big pictures.

I think that's the best drawing I've seen of yours Studio3. I would love to see more of the progress of this! Keep on going  ;D

Now the legs are too short; anian's were good, use them for guidance, if only length-wise.
While it's not that obvious, the other picture also suffers from legstooshorteritis (I made that up).
As a rule of thumb, neck-crotch : crotch-feet = 3:4

I'm very okay with the legs, if that's a style.
I'm more concerned with the arms. It seems that they automagically become longer when they're bent, as reflected both in the woman and the (*ahem*) Roger pictures.

@Khris: I will go and fix the legs today. They do make her look odd. As for the neck-crotch, It's just apart of the style for it to be that big.

@ice:I noticed that arm thing ass I was drawing a few older pics. I all was thought it was so I usually just draw people with the arms down.

I like them. Well that is to say that i think they are technically proficient.

They kind of remind me of Tim Buckley's style from Ctrl + Alt + Del.

All they need now is the B^U face. And my opinion is that the shorter legs work for the style just fine, though the longer legs probably look better overall, and serve to make the character look a little older. Which is a good thing.

If I may have my two cents in the conversation, I would suggest that you elongate the legs, if you want to keep it to the proportion of the human body. It looks a bit strange that the whole upper half of your character's body is well proportioned whilst the legs are much shorter. It makes them look like midgets... (no offense, really. If that's the look you're going for, go ahead  ;D)

But that's only my preference anyway, so do anything you feel comfortable with. :)

Also, you didn't actually make any changes to the actual picture you just posted... The legs are still the same as the ones you were asking about in the first post. At least try and follow Anian's guide, just to see if it suits the character. :)

Well, to at least help with what you chose - her lower part of the right leg (the one that is bended) is rotated too much towards camera and her left doesn't look the same as the other one (the knee is too close to the boot).
And just as an observation, if you're going with those legs, you might wanna make the pants shorter and tighter, she'll look more like that Rikko character (the blone perky one from FFX, not sure what the name is).

I think I might try and play around with the pic you posted. It would help me get a better feel at drawing this.

And it's funny cause I use Rikku's legs as a ref to try and help when I was drawing her. I will try the shorter and tighter pants.

As you can see I've abused the transform tools to adjust the length of her limbs. I also lowered her bangs a bit.

Pretty nice sketch btw, which tablet are you using?

I like it. I guess the sprites matter more then actual sketch though.

And thanks. I don't use tablets to draw. I free draw with my mouse. Or I scan the img to my laptop and draw over it with photoshop. but I rarly do that.
