I'm not great at drawing, but I came up with a 3/4 figure that I thought had potential, and am now working toward drawing him walking. I've a couple of issues with it, personally.

Original 3/4:

Frame of Side-walking:

Couple of things, I think. Firstly, the head - it doesn't seem quite in proportion when it's "rotated" to the side view. Any suggestions on how to improve that? Secondly, I see a lot of people trying to cut down on the number of colours used in their sprites. I'm quite new to this, so I wonder what the significance of that is? And any tips on reducing the number of colours used?

Thanks for your help!

The 3/4 needs some help. The face is very washed out and the lines of the body are grey. Boosting the contrast would help. This style is very cartoony, but the size of the feet are huge and the arms are short and the hands are small.

Well, as for the head problem, the main issue is that his proportions change. The 3/4 is on the left and I drew lines to show where the parts of the body should be on the side view, give or take a bit because of maybe a slight "bob" in his walk.

Changed the purple, because it hurt my eyes.

Also, when you post images, you don't have to scale them before you post them. You can use the [ img ] tags for normal sizing and [ img width=# height=# ] to double it. If you were to quote from my post, you'd see how I did my image.

Cutting down on the number of colors is pure choice. Most people make their games with low color counts because of tradition. It is best to cut down as many colors as possible when spriting, but with something like this, it isn't necessary. AGS now can run millions of colors when it used to run, I dunno, 256? 512?
