ok so I got bored with messing around with that damn dirty dodo. taking the advice of mash potato I did a new sprite only with saturated colours instead of drab ones.
the sprite is meant to be an alien in the mood for love. but I think he might just look angry.... what do YOU think? plus, do the colours work. ANY imput welcome.

I like it! It may just be me but the dark colours make some of its features in-distinguishable, but that still kind of works. He looks a little in love, or stoned. I think I can see what he's doing with his hand, but like I said, dark colours.

All he needs to be saying now is

I'm not quite sure which part of him is making the 'Grr' sound. Thinking about that for more than a second is a bit... no, VERY disturbing to me. Then again, he IS an alien.

I do have a small point of critisism though. The fingers of his right hand (our left) seem to be broken, or with huge claws or fingers? I'm not quite sure how to look at them.

Other than that, great sprite!

 SHM, yes Im much happier with the face now. oneway, he is meant to have long fingers that are curled slightly at the end, Im not sure if it looks that way though, I might try some edits.Oh and the grr, I kinda did that as a spur of the moment thing, on second thoughts its not that great. Ouchmytentacle, yeah, I can imagine him with one black glove covered in rinestones . Any more comments?

nicely done eddie.how about an adventure game about an alien wanting to come to earth,he intercepts some "MTV" transmissions and sees Michael Jackson and thinks he's the leader of all humans.when he first gets to earth,he visits Neverland ranch .Michael could then mistake him for a child with some kinda of rare disease and take him in.he then locks the little guy in his bedroom which then he must escape before,heh,well...

here's another idea,the alien dude finds a lighter(or blowtorch) at some point in the game,he could then use one of the two to melt Michael's nose.oh yeah,has to be a cutscene where michael prances around in a Peter Pan costume trying to impress/arouse the little alien dude. also has to be some MJ midis(maybe at the end of the game it plays "beat it" during credits.) http://www.discoverynet.com/~ajsnead/allsongs_1/beatit.html

Here, have a paintover:



Steps:
1.original sprite
2.the lineart
3.added basic coloring from your palette
4.desaturated the colors, here's a hint about saturation:



5.chose the lightsource - the yellow bulb above him and added one more color for shading
6.shaded the rest of it, added one color for the hihglights - note that since the 2 main colors (blue and purple) are close on the palette so for the shadow and the highlight a color between them was chosen to keep the colorcount as low as posible
7.added 2 more colors for the outlines
8. and 9.a test to see how it looks on a dark and light background

damien, great tut ;DIm gonna do a paintover.tentacle, what can I say? pure gold .I actuallyÃ,  unashamably cried when I read it :' I think Ive fallen in love with your game idea, I want to kiss it in many soft, special places.I have real trouble settling on plots, Im never really satisfied with what I write. Humerous games are the best in my opinion do you think at some point in the future we could perhaps co-develop a game? I mean, were both beginers, and we might be able to learn from each other

Ok I tried following your tut damien, and I think he looks lots better than my original but Im not sure about the second lightest purple on my pic, I think I might have went wrong somewhere, what do you peoples think?....CRIT ME!
