Hi,
I just finished this background, I'd like a little C&C. How's the forest in the background look? Should I add/change anything?
Thanks

Perhaps add a few fading tree trunks?
For some reason the house looks very "flat". Like a piece of cardboard that is trying to play an optical illusion on me.
Yeah, it looks flat to me, i'm adding in a couple trees. i'll repost in a minute.
I like it, and I like your grey/little contrasted style. Changing this style, which looks unique for me, would be an error, IMO... But I would add some brighter pixels in some parts of the snow to give a little of contrast and a bit of snowy texture.
Ok, here's version two...added some more trees, evened out the house contrast a bit, and highlighted some snow per Farlander's suggestion...hopefully this makes it look less "floaty".
Thanks for the comments!

Wow, that BG has lots of atmosphere. But I find the naked trees in the back a bit too "arranged". But it's really beautiful. Maybe add some snow on the tree's branches?
cheers

Good ideas. Here's snow on trees! And another tree!

I really like this picture, for all its atmosphere and instant emotional impact. I think the first pic posted does the best job of showing the house. It's clean in composition and things are detailed in accordance with their "importance" in the picture - I find it more immediate and enigmatic than the next ones.
'tis excellent!
Perhaps the windows stand out a little too clearly in an otherwise blurred bg, and they also look a tiny bit too large.
But it's a small point, really.
Somehow the edges of the house seem too straight. I'm not really sure how to explain it but...it just makes the whole thing look kind of flat to me.
Nice work though. It's coming along quite well.
Here's a quick edit :
*Added some shadows to give the house a less flat look
*Outlined the house a little bit more clearly to give depth and define the borders of each surface
*A few "misplaced" pixels fixed
*Added icicles to give the house a less flat feeling
*Gave the tree a more realistic look
Hope that helps, great job other than that!
I agree 100% with fred. I liked the first image best - subsequent images go from stark to cozy.
Thanks for that edit Esterlin, it looks great. I'll have to play around with it more.
Steve & Fred...I know what you mean about it looking stark (in a good way) but i think it sorta floats too much. I think I like the latter images. Maybe I'll find some other ways to make it look creepier.
I also like the first image more.
This scene is excellent!
Is this game in development? Does it have a title?
Just asking, cos I'll sure as hell want to play this game when it's released
I like the image a lot, very nice tones.
Just a quick try on bringing some more perspective to the house;

Yes, this game is in production: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=26567.0
So, i guess most people like the first image...which is interesting. I'll think about it some more and come back to it later. This is just for cutscenes anyway...
Thanks everyone.
I like all the steps of improvement save the icicles. The rest of the art posted in the production thread, too, has great color choices. I can't wait to see more.
