Hi!
I started drawing some scenes for my first game, and now started coloring them. It is, however, beginning to look a bit silly (laugh)

I would love to have a more traditional look to my scenes and sprites (like monkey island, gabriel knight etc.) I think some of the problem lies in the thick lines. Some older games doesn't seem to have outlines at all. I tried getting rid of them, and just using a darker color around them, but it just didn't seem right at all. Hope this is information enough, as to the style I'm going for. :cheesy:
EDIT: I forgot! Originally the colors was intended to be used as base colors, thought it would be easy to just shade and add light, but is this the right way of doing it?

Could you post a smaller version? It's a bit hard to see what is going on there right now.
3 issues:
- Do not save your drawings as .jpg, this makes some ugly artefacts
- Your background has a weird and huge resolution - are you sure this is supported by your AGS version?
- Your perspective seems to be a bit off.
I think your background looks nice and I would play a game in this style. Why does your background not look like the old games? Because they had a much smaller resolution (320x200) and completely different graphic style!
Thanks for the advices!
Yeah, I guess your right. Getting the older art-style might take a bit more research. I had a felling the perspective was off, I have to look into that.
I just scanned in my drawing and opened it up for editing, but perhaps I can do some rescaling.

woopsies, hope the new one is better!
Why are you not sticking to standard resolutions?
I really should, it's just that I just started doing these things, so I didn't really have any idea about what to do (other than drawing.)
So I think I'll re-do it, with the right resolution and fixing the perspective (think I have to make the lines parallel). :undecided:
I agree with the other folks on the resolution and .jpg format.
Yes, perspective is a bit off, but your background is functional and conveys the message, so thumbs up for me!
Thank you for shrinking the picture and changing the format!
First of all, you should decide which resolution you want for your game. Currently, AGS only supports a few formats from which you can choose. On special occasions (scrolling rooms) you can make larger backgrounds, but most of the time you should stick to the chosen format.
Perspective: there are several ways to draw perspective, with lots of tutorials all over the internet. For the start, it would be good to look for "one point perspective tutorial"
Your shadows are also a bit off. It is very difficult to draw a scene with two light sources. I recommend to only have one window for the start.
My advise for you:
1) Decide on resolution
2) Read a bit about perspective
3) Have fun drawing! :)
Thanks all, you have been most helpful! :-D
