Title: how to: Lo-Res Avatar (pixelize me!)
Post by: yarooze on Mon 04/06/2007 22:31:21
I try to make a pixelized version (64x64) of me ;) and need some help...

Here it is: 1x(http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1161/yarooze03in6.gif) 2x(http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1161/yarooze03in6.gif) and the original of me: (http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/6412/jrc01dp2.jpg) (http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/387/jrc02lgz5.jpg) (http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/387/jrc02lgz5.jpg)

Please tell me your opinion about it...

PS. I made a little bit more hair on my head, since I usually have more than on the photo, and I need an avatar for every day.  ;)

PPS. My wife told me, that the picture is bad and I do not look like it.  :'(

The hair really bothers me! It's so flat in your portrait! Round it off some more? And is it the light? Cos you look blonde in the photo.

I think you need to show a better photo of yourself for the artists here to help you. There is too much light, which hampers being able to see the details in your face.

Try copying the stance and the way your head is facing in the pixel version. If you are working from a source to get the lighting right, you really should try and get it as close a copy as possible. Either that, or a caricature would be good fun!

This is a good idea and I make that to. But how to improve this avatar?..

May be some paint over?  ::)

I went by the head-on shot, and did a quick paintover; mine is on the right:
(http://crabshack.bythegoddess.com/ags/yarooze.gif)  (http://crabshack.bythegoddess.com/ags/yarooze.gif)

Changes:
-slimmed down and lengthened neck
-made less of a square jaw and made chin smaller (btw, i messed up the right side a bit)
-gave eyebrows
-lengthened eyes
-made the nose less narrow
-curved lips more
-removed some shadows on the left
-increased some shadows on the right

I don't know if this looks more like you or not, but hope this helps :)

Thank you very much MashPotato!
I'll try to study/understand your paintover and rework my picture...

PS. Your "me" looks much younger, than my... ;)

Hey, that's cool, I did one of those too (as you can see on the left there).

I prefer the comicky type rather than the realistic pixel style you've chosen. Mash's edit looks really good though :)

Not younger perhaps, but like someone who has lifted less weight. You see, the picture you drew looks WAY like a bodybuilder type compared to your face (no offense ;D ) Rounding the corners and making the neck a bit taller wouldn't hurt, yes.

Thanx to all... ;)

I still work on my avatar and I understood what you told me. You mean that   this (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b139/Vim0314/bodybuilder.jpg) is not me! Such a pity...:'(

I have to make some kind of sweetys...  :-[

I'll try some comicky type later, to. Be aware!  ;D
