How to make a room with Poser or Bryce ?

How do you make a room with poser or bryce? I have both but I don't see how to make rooms with them.

Darcness

Neither Poser nor Bryce are really made for modelling rooms. Poser has no real modelling features that don't have something to do with characters, and Bryce is more suited for outdoor scenes, since modelling with Bryce's 3D primitives is definitely not easy.

I'd suggest a freeware 3D program like Blender to do more intensive room creation.

I would have to disargree with you there. These were all done by me using bryce.
The store has some free 3d objects found on the net. But the other rooms are done just with Bryce primitives. And if you ask me bryce is a fairly easy program to figure out.

Well, I have used Bryce myself to create 3D rooms before, but I prefer to use programs such as 3D STudio Max to do the more intricate modelling of furniture, decorations and other such things with finer details.
Bryce is fine and well if you want a bare room outline to work with, since you can import various types of 3D models as your room "props".

But I prefer a more hands-on approach in creating my own models, therefore I use 3D Studio Max. Have you ever tried to model a sword in Bryce? Not an easy task.
Or what of a car? Nigh impossible in Bryce.

What I can say about Bryce is that it has a wonderful renderer, actually sometimes creating better-looking images than 3DS Max.

I have included two pictures to demonstrate.

This first picture was created using Bryce. Bryce's texturing is good and easy to manipulate, so definitely a bonus.

This second picture was created with 3DS Max.  Some of the models are imports, but the majority is hand modelled in 3dS Max

So, in conclusion, if you wish to create a quick room and furnish it with stuff you get on the internet, Bryce is a good alternative.

But if you want to model the furniture yourself, another 3D program would be a good idea.

Great looking pictures!!! Is there some kind of tutorial for making a basic room similar to the ones you make with Bryce. If Not, how do you start? Do you make the room outline first then fill it with primitives. Any help would be appreciated.

The simplest method is to create 3 boxes, stretch them out (with the scale tool on the edit tab) to create your  back wall and side walls. From there on you can import objects to furnish your room.

The outlines you see in the above pictures are actually the standard wireframe view of the 3D models. You can't actually "draw" outlines in Bryce.

Thanks a lot. I'm going to Bryce (which I know how to use to give it a try).  Your help is really appreciated. I have Blender, and I will learn how to use it tomorrow. I am totally inspired when I see such beautiful rooms like the ones you are capable of creating. Thanks again.

No problem Wabbit.

And by the way jrl222, those are some mighty fine backgrounds you did there.
If I may ask, where do you get your 3D models from?

I'm sure you've probably heard of it, but there are a good variety of models (including furnishings) in 3dcafe.com's free sections.

Cool, another piece of art for me to c&c!

So, let's see...well...

Your spelling is good, no obvious mistake, but you could improve your way of reading the forum rules.

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Darcness

khrismuc, if you take a look at the beginner's forum you'll realize that this thread was actually MOVED to this section by one of the moderators. The rules have nothing to do with it.

Right, apologies.

Still, it's pretty obvious that Bryce has no >Make Room< function, why don't people play around first?
Googling for a Bryce tutorial shouldn't be too hard, either.

Anyways, that question belongs in Adventure-related talk and chat, he surely didn't ask for:
Help with using the AGS Editor, and very basic scripting questions.

i would use 3d studio max, because it is easy to use, there are tons of tutorials, and 3d studio max 6 renderer works very good and its is fairly esasy to set up.....and you can use hdri for very realistic lighting
Never spend more than 20 bucks on a computer game.

sedriss

yeah. i use 3dsmax when im doing BGs. i make them in 3d, then trace the outlines and make them more "old-school".
By the time you read this you've already read it.

Actually when I make a room I start with a cube and bring the sides in to about 10 bryce units then stretch the length out to the depth I want then raise the height to what I want. Then I move it over to one side for the first wall. Then ctrl+d to duplicate the wall and move the copy to the other side for the other wall. then again ctrl+d to dup it again and then holding shift I rotate the wall 90 degrees. Shift locks the rotate to hard angles instead of a free rotate. I move this one to make the back wall then one more time dup the object and flip it to make the ceiling.

And actually I have made a sword and other objects like that in bryce. You have to combine photoshop or a good graphics program with it though and use the latice object and you can build darn near anything. Using the tutorial at http://www.brycetech.com/tutor/bryce/swords1.html I made this wallpaper for my sons computer. Kind of cheesy but he is only 4.

Now I'm not saying bryce is better, because I know it is not. The rendering engine is lacking in many ways you can't export objects made with primitives, and many other short comings. But if you have bryce it really isn't that hard to make usable images.

Darcness

Yeah, that's basically the way I make rooms in Bryce as well.

I'm just so used to using 4 viewports for easy allignment that I feel completely out of my element when using Bryce.

Once again, jrl2222, you do some great work.

You should also check out this http://www.brycetech.com/tutor/bryce/engraven.html for how to use the latice object to make other objects in bryce.
http://www.brycetech.com has some pretty good tutorials. Their are alot of other site out there with ton of good tutorials...just google for bryce tutorial.

i use unrealed for my bgs (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=18728.0)... it's not meant for making good 3d pictures, ok, but i always got nice results, it's easy to use and it's compatible with maya, 3ds, lightwave, and more...
you can get a free (for non commercial uses) version of unrealed here: http://udn.epicgames.com/Main/WebHome
and you can find LOTS of collections of FREE models (cars, buildings, furniture, trees, etc...) on the net.
