Title: Im back! all bow down before my animations
Post by: Morgan on Tue 09/08/2005 03:06:07
Well I bet you all thought you would never see me again. I bet you were saying Oh man I'm sure glad that guy is gone his inability to ever finish a game and his gay name really brought down the quality of this site, but at least he's gone and will never ever return.” Then I'm all like BAM! I'm back what are you going to do about it! ALL BOW DOWN BEFORE ME..... Sorry I got a little carried away. Anyway I'm sure no one remembers this but I was working on a game about a guy in a dinosaur suit who was also an assassin who owned a racist dog and went around killing the elderly (because he would save money by not having to buy a silencer...because there old...and cant hear very well.... and are easy to kill). Anyway I've been working on the story for some time and it has been changed a little. He will not be wearing the suit when you play, I couldn't think of a rational explanation of why he wouldn't take it off when he started his "night job". And a new twist has been added to the story. When he goes to kill the old guy it turns out the old guy is working on a virtual reality chair that when someone is put into it they are transported to a 40s esc virtual world so the old man could go back to "simpler times" (ironically he was able to use advanced super computers and crazy new technology in order to go back to simpler times). But when the main character goes to shoot him he gets knocked into the machine somehow and transported into a 40s world. But the machine uses images of what you perceive the 40s to be in order to work but the only images of the 40s the main character knows of is bad space movies and monster movies and that everything was black and white. The main character will have to find a way to escape this 40s hell he is in, in a game I like to call...Softball Mascot Senior Assassin who gets into Interesting Situations or SMSAIS... or something, for short.
HERE ARE SOME ANIMATIONS:

The walk cycles are really plain and simple because that is always what I get hung up on. If anyone wants to try to make them look better be my guest. Also let me know what you think of the story.
Oh ya and the old man and his cronies will "jack" themselves into the machine to try to stop you and since there knowledge of the 40s is much better than yours things in the world will start to change opening up new puzzles, quests, ect. And the game will be made into chapters or “episodes” so I don't feel like I'm working on some huge game that will never get done.

The side one really needs two frames showing how his feet reach the floor, now it seems he's just marching, see? As for the frontal, quite good, but I'd add two frames (one per each knee) showing the point when his knees are up.

The story sounds interesting; rather complicated, but interesting. I remember when you first mentioned your game and I'm quite disappointed now that you abandoned the suit, because I really liked it. Anyway, the story still sounds like it could make a nice game.
Concerning the animations, I agree with Farlander. Some more frames would be nice. Simplicity is good, but this is a bit too simple imho. The front and back view look quite good already and could be used already, but the side view definitely needs some work as it looks like he isn't moving forward at all.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your game. Good luck.

Ya, I didn't really like the side view either. I know it looks like he's marching but if I add more frames to the side view then I will have to add more frames to the front and I think the front view looks ok the way it is. And I realize the story sounds kind of complicated but it wont be when you play it (I hope).

And I think I'm going to change my name to something a little less stupid. Speaking of stupid how are you Farlander. I'm just kidding. ;D (I hate smileys)

In the down view the left hand (from my point of view) looks a bit weird the way it moves. Maybe not make it turn outwards. Also, in the up view there's something wrong, but I just can't put my finger on it, except that it looks more like he has his abs on the back. On the sideview I don't have anythin to add, except for what's been said already. Nice work otherwise, I dig it!

Ya… I was joking about that Farlander being stupid thing. I thought it was pretty obvious since I wrote the words "just kidding" after it. But seriously I really like Farlanders work, he's great.

Haddas: I see what your saying about the hand but it looked even more weird to me when I made it not move. And on his back view I was trying to make it look less flat. Those lines are the creases in his shirt. I'm trying to make a better side view animation and I will post it when I'm done.

P.S. I'm thinking of changing my name to FireBurt. (It's from homestarrunner.
