Title: Inking practice. (updated again)
Post by: Al_Ninio on Wed 16/02/2005 03:47:11
Erm.
Quick sketch, rather quick inking.
I like the result, so I thought I'd post it.

Any crits?

(Update at teh bottom)

Very nice Al. I dig the larger fill-ins like in the neck and hood, but I don't think the thin whispy hair fits with it. Even so, it's rather cool.

Nice. I think the opening on top of his head (that includes the "broken" headphone) was intentional and/or result of quickness, so I'll ignore it.
I'll say the hair is not even as solid as the sketch, it's probably too lightly drawn in the inked pic, and not definite enough in shape.
And the headphone on his left ear seemed to be placed to close to the back of his head (so it's either the ear put too far away from his face or his face just shifted to one side of the head, which didn't happen in the sketch).

Yeah, I don't like the hair much either.
I didn't really know how to draw it (hair is one of my weak points) so I just did a few quick strokes, and I guess that shows.
About the ear: that's strange. I basically traced the general shape from the sketch, but I do see it now. Will try to fix it.

Thanks for the crits, hope to get more. :)

Some mods:

Very nice linework which I m afraid I messed up. Think perhaps you should make some lines thinner than others in a consequent manner. Usually, the lines on the surfaces which are well lit up would be thinner and vice versa which will provide some depth.

I wasn t sure as to whether you meant for him to wear eyeliners or not, but if you didn t, make sure you make the bottom line of the eye very thin or remove it, otherwise it ll look like he s wearing makeup or has abnormally heavy eyelashes.

Also added some shadows and made the headphones black to provide more value variation.

His ear placement was a bit odd, his left (our right) being to far up n back and his right too low and far out, as far as I could tell anyway.

Anyway, great lines, and overall nicely done.

I'm a fan of fibbing a bit when it comes to shadows - I'd likely have done somethng similar to loominous with a bit more visible face on the shadowed side. Both efforts (the original and loominous') look great, though.

My only suggestion would be to work on the hair, Al. You already know this, though, so I won't bother to go into more detail on it.
Title: Woop. Sketch.

Alright, thanks a lot for your crits.
But here's a new sketch!

Now, one of the things that need help is hair. I find hair very hard to draw.
And noses.
Any tips on those will be greatly appreciated.

And of course. Crits. Get nitpicky.

Hmm, does that newest sketch remind anyone else of Mr. Hyde? That's the first thing that popped up in my mind when I first saw it. :P

Other than that, it's a nice sketch, Ally. ^_^

Um, I wasn't really aiming at drawing Mr. Hide, I was just drawing from imagination, but thanks nontheless. :)

So, erm.
No crits?
Tips?
Derogatory spellings of my name?
Nothing?

The image didn't show up here, and the url gives me a 404. Seeing as how Dart saw it, though, that's probably just because I'm stupid.

The new thingie is neat, but I can't really figure out the shading. Where's the light source? Also, though it might just be the angle, the nose looks a bit off, like it's too far to his right.

Derogatory spellings of my name?

Is Arse_Ninio good enough?

The images don't show up because 2dadventure appears to be down.
Lightsource on top left.
Can't really see what's wrong with the nose, though.

Looks very good, especially the fleshtone selection you've used.  The only problem I see (as I mentioned before, and EldKatt seems to agree) is that the perspective of the nose is a bit off relative to the rest of the head.  Try bringing it inward more (to the left) by shortening the amount of nostril we see.  Very nice work.

Update.

I didn't change the nose, as I am rather pleased with it. Erm, sorry.
I futzed it up a bit while cleaning the sketch up a bit, will be fixed when I finalize the lines.
Not really pleased with the outcome (except for the nose!).
