I don't like the water. Dump the gradients and stay with the simple look. Except from that it looks swell.

Whatever. I just look at the pic and reply. Anyway, I don't see any errors at the island, so get workin' on the water!  :P

ok ok. Here's a litlle fix on the ocean.

I'm going to add the huts to. This is actualy a map. Sorta like in Monkey Island 3 where the maps were not from a birds eye wiew but  a sort of 3/4 wiew.

I did a really quick edit of the ocean:

My choice of colour was bad, but you get the idea.

you mean something like this:
I also added some houses on the beach like a colony of some sort, a lonley hut on the other side of the island and a rock of some sort in the midle of the right part.

EDIT: I forgot to tell you. the palm tree is supose to be biger than the houses becouse it's a gag in the game.

^^ i don't think in the last 2 pictures, the lighting of the water corresponds with the one on the island

I don't think that's lighting on the water. I think it's the sand going down into the water and the water getting deeper. (Yay, new smiley :=)

I think you should take note of blackbird. The top of the mountain is very flat and looks kind of odd.

can i also add that the proportion of your tree on the top of the  mountain is a little out, as it seems to be a lot bigger than any of the huts. If i were you id just reduce the size of it a bit. It'd be nice to see some more detailling to make it a little less empty, but as you say its a map so no doubt we'll see that im sure. Other than that looks good. :)

As I said the tree at the top is supose to be that big becouse it's a puzzle and a gag in the game. But I'll fix up the flat top a bit

EDIT: How bout now.

is the writing on the island going to be in game? If it is may i suggest making it only come up when over the area, and maybe make it slightly transparent.

CreateTextOverlay, or CreateGraphicOverlay if you prefer to use sprites. See the manual.

Nice BG btw. I don't like the water colors though.

Might aswell come with some crit now that we're past the ass thing..  ;D

I really like the detail put into the village and the hut. It's impressive how you made it so life like with so few pixels. But, if I'm not mistaken, the house with a tower, in the village, seems to have opposit shading from the rest of the scene being darker on the right hand side. Maybe you could add a thin dark line to the sand on the left side of the buildings also, to give the illusion of them casting shadows.

I looked at Pudding's edit, and even if that was going in another direction than you were thinking, I think the island would gain from a little more texture in the jungle. Might be worth experimenting with a bit...
