Title: Just another MIDI
Post by: on Tue 15/02/2005 17:55:47
Hi!

I'm not very in this music stuff, but I tried to make a MIDI for my game, just to test out some 'athmospheric' things.

You can listen it here (http://members.fortunecity.de/voodoolake/music1.mid).

It would be nice if you could give some comments about it.
Thanks!

well, is this actually a midi file? When I click on it, media player opens and says it is not a valid file. And I tried downloading it but fortune city won't let me. Are you sure you exported it as an actual midi file?

I hear it well.

Very nice... I found the background a bit repetitive, but it might be just me. Overall excellent, has a nice feel.

Very nice indeed.

I suggest adding some instrument to the background (string ensemble, synth...)  to give it more depth.

A nice tune you have there. It's got that sorta music shop sound to it I think. Like you would use as background music. Maybe on a game map screen. As suggested already, you should mix up the background loop a bit.

Neat. You might want to make the sax less blarey, though. Some small diddling with the controllers, a little bit of modulation (which will make all held notes waver a bit after a while; sounds more natural), and definitely some readjusting of the volume. It hits you with the subtlety of a lead pipe.

The tune itself it good enough. That's a nice sounding bass line, even if it is a little ad infinitum, and the tune is decent enough with a suggestion of improvisation. I like it, but if you tweak it just a little it'll sound even better.
