This is the newest background. It's a park. But something isn't right and I can't figure it aout. Can you help me please.
i edited the window for you. hope you like it.
i think it's a bit better but now it looks like its just been framed and glassed...
i think so to but It definetly looks beter. But it still looks flat. :-[
Here's some edits, you just needed to add the inside "faces" to the frame.
TheDude has a point, but I think you need to add even more depth - as is is the wall of that apartment is paper thin. Make the 'inside faces' thicker, or maybe add a wall outside.
Also, the perspective of the window seems off - the top frame should be higher on the right than on the left. This isn't such a big thing, as the whole BG has a warped perspective, it's just that, to me, the window looks tiny, which might be adding to the 'looks more like a picture' thing.
Cool it worked. Thanx. How does it look now in your opinion?
Better, I suggest moving the frame to the center of the wall and adding the window-sill, maybe curtains, etc.
i tried an edit
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/room4rock.pngedithelp.png)
i changed the colour of the walls and floor, added more shadows and fixed some perspective probs, i think
hope it helped
-Daz
I think it looks cool, the amount of details shows you've put a lot of work on it, and the cartoony style is sort of cheerful. I'm sure it will work well in a game.
Daz' update works well too; it's slightly cleaner and the shadows- albeit not very consequental - helps liven up the scene
I prefer Daz's color. :o so much easier for the eyes
and i like viktor's window frame
and Zootyfruit's window ::)
My version, using Daz's colours, and Zootyfruit's window, kind of...
http://www.geocities.com/whoismonkey/window.htm
Daz's colours are easier on the eyes, as Dan2552 said, but it depends on the mood you want. Your colours would probably be better for a slightly seedy, cheap, bachelor-pad kind of place, in which case you might want to trash the place a little (doors hanging off cupboards, peeling paper, etc).
Your window has a common problem: the world outside doesn't follow the perspective of your house. We should see a horizon cutting somwehere through the middle there, with ground under it.
That window is still waaaay out of perspective, but it's improving. But I like the BG. I love the BG, yup.
here is the latest edit. I changed the color as it was sugested and I modified the window a bit again. I left everithing unchanged. The table is so big for a reason. It actualy fils up the room so... :P
But seriously I think that this background turned out great. Thanx!
Cityscapes were never my strong point ...
I like the background ... the only thing that was buggin' me was the outside of the window.
I'm no expert at this, but I don't think you would be able to see the horizon through the window...
I always put the vanishing point(s) on the horizon because it looks right to me. The vanishing point in the picture is somewhere in the middle of the back wall (somewhere around the first knob on the left on the cupboard over the sink), going OVER the window. When the horizon is placed lower it looks (to me) like the room is at an angle. ???
Maybe the window should be more like this:

Nah...
that isn't absolutley necesery. It depends on what (or should I put it HOW) you actualy draw the picture. I realy like Darth Mandarbs edit. It kinda lookls A LOT better than my buildings. But the only problem here is that this is an apartment in the middle of the city. The picture looks like the apartment is far away from the city.
Yo yo!
Really nice background. The cartoonish style rocks!
Though the background was good in the first place I added a few things:
1. Changed wall colours slightly om the celling and back wall.
2. Added a few shaddows.
3. Changed the window and the door so they fit their walls, respectivly. They do not fit into the overall perspective of room to keep the cartoonish style intact.
4. Stole the idea to the things outside the window from Darth Mandarb...
I hope you can use some of my changes.
- your pal Niels
these are realy cool backgrounds. Hope nobody minds if I borow one of them. ;)
update!!
I added a new background for your critics.
The new b/g rocks.
I would say you should make the wheels bigger oin that van and move them closer towards the front and back of the vehical... Then you would be able to see the other front wheel on the far side - because now you can't and it kinda looks like it's floating.
I like it all though. Shading is cool. Angles look O.K.
Cool.
that is one loooooong building maybe break it up abit and a few perspective problems which can easily be changed. And im just wondering if someone has puked on the wall next to the scull and cross bones?
looks nice
-Daz
Yes that is PUKE. Im fact that is brians puke. It's a gag in the game that I'm not telling before the game is released. Hope you can wait 10 years ;D
I'm fixing the background at this wery moment.
You'll have to be more specific on the perspectives problem. So I'll know what to fix. ???
Looks cool... only major problem I can see is the graffiti looks like it's floating.
here is a little fix. I fixed the skull and the wheels. Then I added a bit more detail to the porch, and added a poster on to the wall.
Looks good, though the outline around the skull takes focus away from its surroundings, even the van which looks like it would be the main focus. It needs to blend in with the wall somehow, same with the poster.
how bout now. I just used the main color of the skull and poster and darkend them. The I used THAT color for the outlines.

sorry to tell you this after all these edits but the drain looks as if the right side has lifted up with no hole underneath, change that a your probally there
hope you understand what im trying to say, hehe
-Daz
Much better, nice work.

no problem. That's why I posted the picture before I used it in a game. For you to tell me what's wrong.
The edits I'm going to make when I have the time:
- Split up the bouilding
- fix the drain
- Make more detail to the sidewalk (cracks in the round and a nother sewer drain)
Ok here are the fixes I promised. But I think that the boulding looked better whet it wasn't split up...
I do think it looks better split up, but the perspective on the 'inner' wall of the new building is off.Ã, It should follow the lines of the sidewalk!
Here's a quick paint-over:
- added perspective fix to building side
- added some details to blue building (brick lines)
- added some shadows (window/door)
- changed the street grate thingee into a rounded type thing (not sure of the terminology here)
I ran out of time and have to go back to the dentist ... hope this helps in some way!
DARTH! YOU ARE THE BOMB: Thanks a milion. No! Make that a bilion. I'm definetly going to us ethis background. But I am probably not going to use the bricks that you made in to the wall. Becouse I didn't actualy want the bricks to be seen.
But thenks anyway.
I just finished a new background (ok ok it was actualy finished before the street baackground). I can't put my finger on it but something's wrong here. Could you please help me. Is it the angels. The grass? The sky? I just on't get it. I tryed almoast ewerithing.
where the cement meets the grass is kinda sharp, the fountain also kinda looks weird because the top is offcenter
that statue of brian may rocks
make the grass a little lighter and thats all i notice atm
great work
-Daz
My main problem is that piece of fence. It sticks out from nowhere. (is it a bin? if so make it rounder) but other tan tha, great bg
There aren't any shadows on the pavement around the fountain. The fountain, among nearly everything else, has shading, but the ground doesn't, making all that plain grey stand out. Maybe you should give the fountain and statue a shadow on that pavement. Other 'n that, great job!
DÖH! How could I forget the shading.
Here is the update.
Wow, it's excellent.
But to me the whole scene looks kind of skewed, like something is pulling it to the bottom left:
Know what I mean?
hm..
I see what you mean. The only problem might be the pawement. If I straighten it out it might look better. But I don't se how the bush, the fountain and brian may are bothering you.
is this better?
Quick & dirty:
ok i'll fix the bush. But i don't get why you changed the fountain. What god did that do?
It looked to me like its left side was pointing to the bottom left.
wow nice backgrounds victor. ( i like the battle of band backrounds the most (cause of the brian may statue) in what program do you draw these things and how much time do you put in this work.
I draw them in MS paint. This one took me an hour or two becouse I traced ower a drawing I drew. But I'm sorry to inform you that you won't see any more backgrounds for this game for a while. I'm puting the prodiction of for some time becouse I hawe so many better ideas in my head that I just had to try them out. But don't worry. I'll get back to it some day...
