What do you think about this gumball machine? Don't worrie about the room it self.  It's from the Maniac Mansion Mania Starter pack.

Does the perspective of the gumball machine look ok in this room?

Here is a bigger one

Here is version 2. WHat one looks better with perspective?

Still kinda hard to see. I have to post a in game pic

Some say i need panels! and Some say i dont Need them.   WHERES THE DRUGS I'm going CRAZY. Plus I must have been on Drugs and a Maniac if i was going to name the game Maniacs Mansion.

The foot is not horizintal enough.

On a separate note, it's hard to identify as a gumball machine (it would make it much easier if there were actual multicolor balls in it)

Mad

Ahh, ouxx got there before me, and he already pointed out what bugged me the most about this - the foot.

Nontheless, I had already made a quick paintover, so I might aswell show it.

Since this room does not follow a correct one-point perspective (and that's fine, it still works!), I just pushed a few pixels on the stand to give at least some impression of perspective.

Another thing is the lack of depth of the stand - changed that.

Altered the lighting a bit. The main thing here is the contrast, imo it just needed more.

There is still some room for improvement, so just work on it a bit more.

Monsieur OUXX

Mad's paintover restored the ratio between the foot's "depth" (which translates by its height on the screen) and its "width"... But at the cost of modifying the perspective.

It can be an issue if you plan on making this object available for any room.

Another solution, (the one I had on mind in my first post) is to draw the foot thinner, that is: keep its current width, but reduce its "height" on the screen.

That fix makes the perspective of the object permanently slightly wrong (it will be like it's always facing the scene, whether it's on the right or on the left of the screen, a bit like a billboard) but more adaptable to any perspective.

Mister L

I would say, it's a bit close to the door, isn't it?  :o
People who enter the room through the right door might just run into it...

Sam.

Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Update

ok I this is the first edit I try to fix the stand and the glass.

Here is the new in game edit.  I moved it all the way over it was in the way when he was walking.

I made the upper base more flat. Almost center of the room. Made the floor base smaller. It was in walking space.  Worked on glass.

Thank you for the help!

The new version is much better. I think you could even remove one more pixel (in height) from the floor base.

cosmicr

shouldnt the lighter side of the machine be on the left?

theo

Dude, don't worry. "OK perspective" and Maniac Mansion don't mix and match. I think it looks distinctively MM.

Update

Here is two new in game screens. I fixed the base and other stuff and put two objects in the glass for the game.

I'm really not sure about the shading on the glass part. Glass is always weird when it comes to light becuse different light reflections.  Convex and concave and such.  I made the glass a transparent object also.

Thank you for the help and posts.

You've done a really good job on the glas, but I think it's a bit to detailed compared to the rest of the room. You should maybe stick to two or three colours as in your previous versions and the other elements in the background.

And, what happened to the line on the carpet at the base of the machine? You should keep the original perspective. Only a minor thing...

On a different note, are you really going to use all those interactions in the gui?!

I fixed the floor.

The GUI dose look complex but it works well.  You will see when you play the tech demo.

The follow verbs are to make other characters follow you and stop following.  It's a time saver so you can move to characters at the same time.

The verbs Look at, Read and search.

Example:   Theres a wooden crate.   Look at.  The wood has been soaked in some type of chemical.
Read: Theres a number written on the wood. 9742.
Search:  I should open the crate first.  Or   I can't find any thing.   Or    Oh there was a hole on the side of the crate I found a so and so.

If done right and in  balance it works great.

The GUI is based off the NES version of Maniac Mansion.   You will se in the game.

Oh and the verbs add some hidden humor. So keep note.

Not to criticise, as it sounds like you've given it a lot of thought and in context it probably does work quite well, but you could simplify it by combining those verbs.

So Use would work for performing an action on an object, including your Turn On/Turn Off, Look could be used to look at objects and Read signs, and Talk To could start dialogue which for some characters may have an option for asking them to follow you/stop following you.

Still, it will be good to try your approach first. Good work with the edits =)

Thank you all for the help and the posts.
