That looks really nice! Really moody :) The room looks a bit empty though? I never played any of the Laura Bow games so maybe it's supposed to be this empty :)
Awesome, it really looks a lot like the Colonel's Bequest background, I've also been aiming at making a background-style like this for my police adventure, but to no avail. so thumbs up to you.

I noticed that the light on the right wall is magically there, perhaps you should add two lamps?
My only critique is that it looks kind've like an EGA background recoloured in a VGA pallette. Maybe twist the perspective a bit.
P.S. - During your remake, PLEASE rework the puzzles. In the first game, it seemed as if Laura was just watching the mystery unfold before her eyes. Have her figure something out this time.

Dark of Night, if you look at the smiley, you can see that Nancy probably wasn't really offended.
Well that's a nice try of remaking a "Colonel's Bequest" room. I did recognize it after all, but the original has some more ... uh, hard to say ... magic in it. Can't quite say what is it: Same as the 1:1-remake of Hitchcock's Psycho. Though it was a good copy, it lacked the magic.
But if the picture has it's objects back, it might give me some kind of a positive chill. Good work, and have fun in going on with it!
