I just used the last few hours on this library in MS paint. I think it turned out pretty good, but i wanna know what you guys/guyettes think. Is there something you don't like, is there more i can add, and stuff like that. Here's Step-By-Step how i made it:

(I know .JPG and .GIF looks ugly, but use your imagination and pretend is .BMP)
Right, here i just started out the shape. Green walls, wooden floor, and a door.

Here i added some bookshelfes(or whatever). But still, i forgot to buy books.

Just a rug, so it wont seem so empty and alone.  :'(

At last, the books! Have you ever tried drawing books from diffrent angels than front? It takes time!

And now, to finish; Forground.

There we are. I wasent too picky on the perspective, since i want it to be more cartoonish.

So, any C&C? God, it feels good to come back to AGS again.

Pet Terry

I like it! Nice use of bright colors and overall your style is good. I hope this is for Wayne Phew? :P

Yes, it will. But not the previous one. I'm gonna use diffrent background styles and a new script.

Ooh, check out, foreground!:

Better or worse?

InCreator

You could try a bit less bright green on the walls. Current one is screaming green. But maybe I'm wrong, not really sure.

HillBilly

There we go. Less screaming. Thanks!

just a note, gif doesn't look like crap at all, you aren't using gradients as far as i can see and what gif will do is perserve your exact pixels and colours as long as it's below 256 colours which it looks like your image is

That's what I thought too. But it seems that for some reason the colors are different in the JPG and GIF versions. Are you using less than 256-color GIFs? As MrColossal pointed out, the format itself shouldn't be the issue for this image.

Hmm... I can't really come up with any criticism that wouldn't mess with the style so in that fashion I don't really have anything to criticize. :)

I think the one thing that kind of disturbs me is the foreground object that's blocking the door a bit. It kind of leaves me wanting to see a bit more of the actual scene. Perhaps you could move it a bit downwards so the door is in a more prominent location. It's just a minor issue though.

Overall look: great! I would gladly play an adventure with graphics of that standard.

Ginny

That looks wonderful! Really nice cartoonish backround + a sorta tutorial so I'mteh ahppy! :D

One thing that I'd like to point out is that in the very first image, the lighting seems impossible because if the light is in front of the wall with the door (brightest) then its' also infront of the the one with books (darkest) and in that case it shouldn't be darker. However, I think this is still possible if the light is close to the door, and there is thus no light facing the dark wall. Wow, I've just given myself a headache. Anyway, great stuff!

I'm glad everybody liked it. :)

MrColossal: I actully used a little more than 256 colours. If you look at picture 2 and 2b, you see alot of diffrence at the colours. Except that, gif is great.

Pessi: The reason I put the foreground infront of the door, was that i wanted the library to look small and "put-back". You know, like when you place your old teddy bear in the attic. But, you got a point. Maybe i'll change it if it's too disturbing. :)

GinnyW: That confused me as much as you. But, i changed a bit on the colours at the last picture, and the book shelfes covers most of it.

Thanks everyone.

MrColossal

well then i suggest using PNG or at the very least upping the compression on those jpegs, there's actually no way i can see more than 256 colours cause it's so badly compressed:

see when i zoom in on that gif i can actually see everything, zooming in on that JPEG just destroys it all.

however, my suggestion is maybe instead of complete black shadows in the foreground to actually draw them and just make them in shadow. I think things like that in the foreground look more like black cardboard instead of a peice of scenery that has volume and mass

I tought of that... but for some reason i can't remember why(maybe i was scared?) i dident. Anyway, here's a more clear look:

as for the foreground, I'll get to work on that.
