Title: (Like the others) It's my first BG! first real bg.
Post by: Tutano on Sat 13/03/2004 21:00:10
Hey! It's my first, decent and real BG. But I think that something is wrong, and somethig is makeing this bg a strange bg! What do you think? What can I do to make this more beautyful.
Here's the link (cuz the image is 800X400):

Wow! I really like this style and perspective! Well done making the water look transparent, maybe what's missing is a bit of waveness? Then again it's a swimming pool, they're usuall very still if no one is in them.. I can't really find anything to critic, this style seems to look better without much shading, especcially cause the atmosphere seems so bright and shiny :) Maybe add something of a shine to the windows?
What's the rectangle of light on the floor near the pool caused by?
I understand it's a scrolling room?
It seems to be isometric, but different.. ;)
This is a great crisp style in my opinion.

edit: When I open it in photoshop there are some white dots on the edge of the front door step. That could just be the compression. What did you make it in?
And I'm interested in seeing how a character would look like in this style. Is this background for a game?

very nice style, but how are you going to draw the player character for this style. Wont he have to be at a different side, because of the perspective?

very good background tho.

Oh... the rectangle is shadow, only shadow effect, but don't look?!
Yes it's a scrolling room.
I make it in Flash, macromedia flash.
And the character is a problem, I think that I'll do it in diagonal, I don't know. I'm making the bg first, for then make the best character for the style.

PS: Again, sorry for my poor english.

First of all: Beautiful background, I really like it.
As far as I can see, the perspective is basically correct, but the vanishing points are very close to each other, which makes the perspective look a little weird. In fact, they are both located inside your image, whereas they would be much further apart in 'real life'.

Might be worth experimenting a little.

Nice background yeah, but is that made for a game?
If so, keep in ming that backgrounds, where perspective makes things to be at very deep angles towards a player, makes things difficult... uh.
Basically, if you'll make a room like this, you have to use lots of scaling on your walkable areas and scaling makes character appear horrible, especially when scaling character larger. And this is a problem you'll encounter later with this room.

I was doing this picture to make a very real style, but I can't, I'm so "comic" and I thing, its beautiful and not useful... oh... I can use this in the start game menu... and.. i'll redraw this picture in other perspective to use like a bg... but, thank you.... for critc...

PS: Sorry for my poor english... I don't speak english where I leave, then, I don't have pract...

impressing background with excellent perspective. Looks like it was designed by an architect!
What it needs? i am not sure, but  personally i would like some texturing at grass, walls. It does not need anything else.

Very nice! Maybe too bright for me, but the perspective and the stone texture is brilliant!

Very nice! Great style too. My only concern is that the roof of the garage on the left has a different perspective to the closer roof.

Other than that, fab!

Hm, fascinating technique, although the perspective is far from correct...firstly, all lines do not merge in vanishing points (draw some helplines from various positions to see for yourself), secondly, when the perspective is that deep, distortions will occur regardless of how accurate you make the helplines.

This is mathematically hard to prove, but remains a fact; angles that are right seen from above can never be less than 90 degrees as they draw nearer to the viewer. The near corner of the pool would undoubtedly have such a distorted angle.
