Now here I grant you my second room - first the barn, and now the bedroom.

It has some perspective issues (especially the doorway), as well as shading/lighting issues, but I don't know how to fix them. =/ Also, I feel that more items could be added, yet I don't know which items. Keep in mind that my game is supposed to be set in the 1900's, so no electronic items.

As always, your help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Thanks for all of your ideas. I think I've finally realized how to use perspective in rooms (what I needed to know most), so thanks a lot, Mari.  :)

Sorry I didn't update this room yet, but skateboarding/school/archery takes up most of my time. Expect an update on Friday or Saturday, though.

the first thing that bugs me is the bed, it's like one big colour white, also, some of the shadows are inconsistent. They're really dark on the side of the bookcase and almost nonexistent on the side of the bureau.

the long shadow down the wal on the bureau also shouldn't be there, there's no light source in that room to cast that shadow, it's on either side of the window and the shutters would block the majority of light going to the bureau so it was basically be lit with light reflecting off the room.

the base of the vase [ha!] is completly straight, along with the top.  the light doesn't seem to be hitting anything, it just seems to be sitting there ontop of everything, it doesn't illuminate the desk or the floor with any intensity just the air, and that doesn't make much sense.

as for other things you can have laying around, papers, cameos on the wall [cameo being a small profile portrait of someone in silhouette], a mirror, a cross.

and what is that thing behind the bookcase on the far wall? it looks like a shrunken down image of something and it doesn't look like it fits in this room at all. also I'd consider making the streaks on the far wall run down instead of at the same angle as the streaks on the left most wall.

also may i suggest in the finished game that the light kinda twinkles and moves? it'll add much more to the background I'm sure of it.

edit:

dunno if this will help but i threw it together quick:

"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

Perspectives 101

Ok.. your room lacks perspective, so here's a quickie tutorial!  (PLEASE forgive the crappiness of these drawings as I had to do them in mspaint on a laptop using only the fuzzy button)

Remember that picture where your looking down a road and there are telephone poles on either side?  Well the "horizon" was the line at which the earth met the sky and the point at which the highway disapeared was called the vanishing point.  So when drawing a room you generally need to define your horizon line and vanishing point.

Here is a typical example of a horizon line and vanishing point:

The vanishing point is where the 2 diagnal lines meet.  The lines appear to be parallel and they will be your guide when drawing various items in the room.  I have drawn the horizon and vanishing point in the middle of the page, but if you are looking more for an above the room perspective, the horizon will be higher and vise versa.

Now I added 2 squares that will define the room:

In this next example I have demonstraited how moving the horzion line up can change your perspective.  I have also added a peice of furniture and an extra wall to demonstrait how you can use the guides.

Here is another example of how you would gain a "Looking down into the room" perspective.

Here is Eric's picture with the diagnal lines added:

Yup, perspective...

Love your use of color!
