Title: Look at a screen shot of my upcomming game
Post by: on Thu 09/09/2004 14:13:29

Hello everybody and what do you think of this screenshot?

BTW: It's not being made in AGS but in c++ with SDL,
hope that doesn't make it too off-topic :)

I don't think nobody would blame you for not using AGS... This is CL! We crit art, not necessarily AGS stuff...  :D

It looks ok, but I would add depth, maybe make the trees in the second take more dark, and include some elements in the distance, little mountains, hills...

Maybe the colors are too bright, but I can't really say it doesn't fit, they match with the naive style.

Good attempt indeed.

Hehe :) It's one of the game's yokes, but it's useful as you will see when the game is completed :)

It looks good. I suggest you reduce the blurring on things though, since it kind of distracts, because the main char is sharp. Good work though ^_^

The leaves on the shrub, and on the trees, need to also cover the branches a little.

The way it is now they don't look like leaves, they look like big green masses attached to the ends of the branches.

I like the character and I'm interested in the 'Yodel' option.

Quotewhat is a "yodel"??Ã,

It was developed by the villagers living in distant valleys of the alps to communicate from a valley to another using the natural echo of the mountainsides.

It is also useful to scare away any wolves and bears near the village :-)

AtZeuS : looks just fine - hope to see more soon

(btw. WAS there ever in history of electronic entertainment a Gui offering "yodel at" as command ?!?!)

A yodel is the tool that the aliens from the distant planet of Bathonia use to steal the money of civilians on Earth. They then use this money at stripclubs here.

At least, that is how the bum who sleeps in front of my house tells it.

Fun! You have really nice style going on here. The atmosphere is perfect and matches the apparent offbeat tone of the game... "Yodel at tree", haha this one is priceless :)
I like a bit of 3d feel you are getting with the use of textures. As others have mentioned, if you'd sharpen up some details (texture of tree in the foreground especially), it would be perfect. Character is superb anyway.

Is there a release date for the game?

Thanks all! I'm glad you like it and í will work on your suggestions tommorow, I will post the new screen shot then too.

As for the release date.. It's hard too say but it will take while here's what i have now:

game engine: 68%
main character animation: 90%
backgrounds: 10%
NPC animation: 0%

I haven't got a whole lot of time so probably 8-12 months but don't count on it :)

Does anyone have some tips on how to make the leaves look better?

Use the "Modify" button to edit your posts instead of double and triple posting.

Here's my second try. I changed the trees and their leaves, added some hills and changed what is supposed to be a puddle of dryed up mud.

Oh i also tried to cover the branches with leaves a bit but i couldn't get it right :(

Let me know what you think!

Just a suggestion, put some of the leaves in front of the branches. The tree looks like the one side of it is dead cause there's no leaves...

The tree, house and bush doesn't really blend into the rest of the background. Try using a soft blur on the edges just to get rid of the sharpness. After that I think it'll look great!
