Post by: Candle on Mon 17/01/2005 01:38:03
Trying to do some bees flying and not sure how it is done .
They stung someone and had to be removed .

Like some tiny W's randomly changing places. I think you need to make the motion of them moving alot smoother.

Looks good but i think it neds to be a tad faster, to show the rapid movement on the second one. Not sure if this would work but try adding yellow to the bottom point.

Definantly looking better, I think maybe it needs a little more colour and perhaps make it a little bigger?

Maybe add some motion lines behind them.

What would that be ? sounds cool thou .. lol
They do look good in the scene as I added a few that set the speed diff for each one so they are randoming moving around .

Something like this:

That might be too much in the animation, though.

Actually, the second(lone) bee looks great. Make the rest like that and it could be fine.

Back durring the previous ATC, I had made some fly animations for a smelly sewer worker.

Not much, but just an example.

Oh that looks good . I kind of got the same look with the bees when they are random speed in the game .

I think the very first one will look ok once it's over a proper background, (especially if there is a light/dark contrast in the background).

This is the background .

Just under the trees they will be with a nest .

Ahh , this a ron game :)

Yes i like the bee with the yellow point at the bottom, on a proper background it will look better , i used to use pinks as my background colour , however chnaged it to a aqua-blue type , works better for me.

The first one is a mess sorry to say it. The one with just one bee is much more convincing - the motion in the first one is just too erratic.

Ya the first one was bad so I removed it . I think the last one is the best but the yellow turns light blue in the game ?
But I can take a few and add them in one spot then change the speeds on them and it looks great .

If it turns blue, maybe you have your colour settings messed up. Are you using a palatte or 16-bit colour?

I think the bee will fit nicely (read: I like your bee. It's hot), but first you have to make the hive way bigger. Well not WAY bigger, but not just one or two pixels bigger, either. At the moment your hive is about half the size of one of the bricks in the wall, and from the way the tree branch is leaning, it looks like it's leaning CLOSER to the viewer, not away, meaning it should be even bigger still.

I like your character sprite, too. He looks 'ronny' (that is now an official word) without looking like a paint over of Davey or the Mayor. Good for you :)

Thanks Peter .
I can change that as your right it does look a little small .
The char is one of the ones that Eric's (MrColossal's) character template:
You can find it in the The Contribution Thread <--- (Templates, free GUI:s, bg:s, .chr:s)
.

As far as the animation of the bees goes:

I haven't any reference right now, just memory (it's Winter outside), but don't bees tend to slow down a bit as they turn (as opposed to most flies, say) and hover in a similar spot a little more. Having that kind of motion might make your bees animating a little more bee-like.

No get some bees mad and see how they turn .

I thought the first one looked 'bee-like' ... but I'm certainly no expert on bees.Ã,  (if I get stung by one though I swell up like a baloon)

On an [offtopic] note Candle, you should shrink that signature graphic down ... it's HUGE!
