Title: Look my starwars art
Post by: Eleazar on Tue 23/11/2004 15:02:13
Well, I found this in one cd I burned a long time ago.
I did this picture using ONLY ms paint.
Any comments?

Why have you included photos of characters from the movie in your picture? And why have you written "copyright Eleazar" under them?

The lightsabres look ok as far as I'm concerned, especially since they're done in mspaint. Clean and nice. Good work.

Since never, I did the antialiasing 8), pixel by pixel >:(.
I drew that a long time ago, and for that time the only program of drawing that I had was paint. Believe me ;).

They're very good for a MS paint work, but I recommend to move for a better (more complete, ok???  ;)) program to do the same, or better, with less work.

And now, as a little (tiny) crit (IMHO) to the post, many AGSers don't like to post in CL works with "copyright by XXXX", it may appear like the author considers his work so overwhelmingly good that it's going to be copied by any of the members taking a look to it, and no work is so good!  :)

Another thing, and putting me in danger of being accused of "moderatorism" is that CL is for improving... this seems to be a pretty finished work (ages ago?) Posting it you won't seem to search for improving it or your style/tecniques because it has passed so many times that you've surely improved by yourself, so... why posting? I think there are pages for freelance artists for posting its finished works.

But that is just my opinion, I may be wrong.  :)

Jeeze guys ... give the man a break! :)

Self anti-aliasing is possible!

When I first saw Qui Gon and Yoda I too assumed they were photos ... take that as a compliment!

I remember YEARS ago using M$Paint to recreat the cover of "The Eye of the World" book 1 of the wheel of time. Ã, I sure do wish I could find that file ... I know I have it somewhere. Ã, I also did the cover of "Fire Sea" (book 3 of the Death's Gate cycle)

I ramble ... good work man. Ã, They look pretty damn good for a pixel by pixel method!

Anti-aliasing only on the inside and not the outside?

Holashm.
Farlander: I'm using pixia right now to draw my rooms and ms paint for characters and inventory items (it's the simpliest program in the planet). The copyright is somehow a mark in the picture; and I post this here for you to critizice.
Darth Mandarb: Thanks.
Aha, I was searching on other of my cds and found some of my old 3d art. Look at:

Yeah, I think this is best approach for transparency if you're not going for alpha blended sprites.

It sure is. I work like that all the time, it gives you the best result (in my opinion). :)
Besides, I think the .jpg compression is acting up a bit in Eleazar's image. Nice work!

Well, it's pretty much possible to make pieces of art like Eleazar's Star Wars picture. In fact I did a couple of concepts in Paint myself.

You have to realize that for pure pixel art it doesn't matter much what tool you work with as long as it provides enough colours (and by enough I mean that 256 are way too many for the purpose) and single pixel pencil tool.

The rest depends on skills in placing one pixel by each other. I have never used any "effect" in my pixelart.

Thus antialiasing IS possible in Paint it just takes patience and experience...

BTW Eleazar: jpg compression is an ultimate evil for pixel atr and screws pictures badly. Why don't you try png instead?

Como esta la berga cuerda de jodedores?
I am very happy that you have liked my images. All the 3d work was did in 3d max when I was 13 years old (now I have 15 so they are not so old :P); well the third image is an assembly, I did the ufos not the people. Yes, the bike rocks (it sounds me like ff7 ;))

Hasta luego.

You were 13 when you did this? Great!
Love pixel art too. Smashing work all around.

Btw, what's wrong with "copyright" thing? Internet is a tricky place and without even knowing it, work that you have posted on some forum/site might appear somewhere else (that doesn't necessarily mean it was stolen)... if nothing else, copyright is a signature that makes sure the author is known even when such "transitions" occur.
Think about it: why do you add copyright in your games? It's the same here.

It's a personal apreciation... I don't like "Copyright by John Doe" in CL. Paintings in CL are usually tiny, unfinished works just for the eyes of the AGSers. Posting the copyright thingie looks (for me) like "I'm so good that I know you're going to steal my work, matey!"

Of course, I'll probably be wrong, as personal apreciations are most of the times unrational and stupid.  ;D

I agree with Farlander there. Having someone say Copyright ... annoys me too. But on the other hand, a signature is fine, and I like it.

But on topic: Nice work Eleazar, I too did think that those SW pics were reduced photos, so that is a complement. The 3D work is nice, but could do with improvements, but I don't think thats what you were asking for. Anyways, I'm impressed.

Wow! That's some art! I especially like the one with the spaceship. I think it's kinda funny.

I don't know what is with the copyright thing, I put that when I made the picture like a mark. You can look my 3d work, it hasn't copyright ;D.
Que os ha pasao Farlander?
So you are from Spain eh?
Well, I'm from Venezuela. Here we speak in spanish but the problem is that in english isn't the word "castellano" that is a metauniversal  :P language and not only from spain. In each country the "spanish" is different, some use they own words that aren't listened in other places. For example in Argentina there are words as: vite or boludo, and in Spain there are words like: friki ;) (freak for something). So, your translation is an Spanish translation but a Venezuelan would be like: What's up my friends? :P
Gracias for read my stupid class about languages ;).

Thanks God! the literal translation sounds awful!  ;D I didn't knew it was "what's up?" it also sounds bad if told in Spain.

Nah! I've heard mexicas and they way of saying hello sounds very "aggressive" too for the spanish talkings here in the Peninsula...

but... "Puntas maderas???" "wood tops"???
