Castle Vania variation

A friend asked me to cover one of the tracks from the original Castle Vania game, so I composed this shuffle jazz/blues/funk variation on the song "Wicked Child" (it plays on level 3 in the game I think). Basically I just took parts of the lead melody and built a new song around it. I'm looking for some pointers on how to mix it. Does anything sound weird or unfitting? A better idea for the lead instrument? I'm using a slightly phased clavinet...

Wicked Child is one of the coolest tracks of any nes game, possibly in the entire world of gaming

Your version is really well made, and in a really cool style too

Well I hear it, but I'm not getting any Wicked Child vibe here.  That's just because of how you change the style though, which you meant to do...so it's a success!  I think.  I don't like all the lead stuff over the shift.  If you know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I got it. It's a bit messy at times. The idea was to take the lead melody and do something completely different and I pushed it a bit too far at times. I'll see if I can clean it up a bit in the final mix. Thanks!

Yah the only other thing I could add would be to boost the volume for the melody in the mix.  I meant to tell you that in my first post but between words I was kind of nodding off into space...sorry.  Can't wait to hear it when you clean it up!
