but seriously the top of his body look like an "m" and the stripe curves up too much

I also noticed the "M" shape in the upper body. I'm not sure how to fix that. I'll fix the stripe though.

Any other suggestions? How can I make him look older? Right now he looks 20-somethin' rather than 39.

And could someone help me with simple shading? I could never figure out how to shade a person.

Oh, and is the one with glasses better?

Yous hould give him a moustache as well to look older and have a look at erics template for shading example.

Actually, I originally wanted to give him a full beard (mustache attached to the beard), but I couldn't get it to look right. Also, I had a look at Eric's character template, but his character is... naked and mine isn't so the shading reference isn't very useful there.

Not bad Zooty, but the shading on the vest and face sorta clashes with the not-shaded pants.

I still don't know if I like it with or without the glasses... The glasses look more like a mask than glasses, I guess.

I gave a quick re-edit (hope you dont mind)
I opened his a arms a little, put some rounded glasses, lowered the beard and put some shadows on the pants.

I had a go at it to. I didn't do much actualy. I fixed the shoulders a bit. I thought they were a bit to wide and the arms were a bit to long. I also changed the feet a bit. They looked to flat. But all in all it's was a good sprite from the get go.


p.s.
I sugest you go for the guy without the glasses. He looks better without them. But If you decide to go for the glases make them without the frame. That's what makes them look loke gogles.

Chikago666, that's a really great paint-over. So great, that I basically stole it. Hehe.

viktor, those arms make him look too wimpy. The legs are nice, but I want to be able to draw the down walking animation with this sprite, so I don't think the legs would fit.




I also just created the simple back view sprite, and I'm about to do the side view...

His Hair! A 39 year old physicist should be respectabiggle. The spikey hair makes him look young. Maybe if you had it combed. Or make it messy without spikeyness (like the mad scientist type). Also, you might add a little grey in his hair to make him oldish

Actually, that's meant to be scruffy hair that's just sort of sticking up. He's a poor scientist that hasn't had any real work in a while (which will be explained in the game). I didn't mean for it to be "spiked."

I'll add some gray and see how it looks.

Some modifications:



The gist:

(i) Moved his eyes downwards and apart. Also removed the whites which in my opinion always makes the eyes look stary and mad.

(ii) Relaxed his pose by lowering shoulders and tucking in elbows as well as making his stance more casual.
