Title: making a dome look curvy
Post by: Dave Gilbert on Mon 29/05/2006 23:46:52

Any pointers?  I'm happy with the overall composition, but that dome is driving me batty.  Any shading I add to this just turns it into a poorly pixelated pile of poo.  Help is definitely appreciated.

Here's my shot at it:

(Corrected the dome's perspective, too)

Hm.  Good call on the perspective.  That's probably why it was bulging out when I tried shading it.

Khris's edit is good, but another shade along the largest grey spot would help. Some panels would help make it look more domey too.

a very definde highlight, and some dithering to smoothen things out.

Base of the dome (I mean the gray squares) doesn't match with the overall style.

Maybe removing some stone outline will give the picture more homogeneity.

Surely I'm not the only one to find this latest edit titillating?

I know mine's very basic and far from ideal, but the latest isn't only titillating to the max (had to look it up ;)), the dome looks like a square tent now.

Maybe I'll do another edit if I'm in the mood, watch out for it

If you mean seaduck paintover, I think it's good. Perhaps making the transitions between colors on the dome mor smooth, but apart of that, seems great.

Hi Davy!

Here's my take. I love the other two, especially Khrismuc's (you'll notice I kinda painted over it).

BTW, I don't think this improves the other paintovers. I just feel it may suit your style a bit better.

Thanks, everyone! Seaduck, those reflections are lovely.  It actually looks like metal, now.  Although I agree with BB when he says "titilating." :-D
