Title: Matter of resolution: 640x480 or 320x240?
Post by: Joe on Sat 08/03/2008 13:12:56
Hi guys!

I'd like you to tell me which resolution you recomend me for this game I'm making:

This one:

Or maybe this other one aspect ratio:

If you have any other kind of suggestion, please tell.

I think you'd be better off using the high resolution one. It somehow supports the flashy style more in a way. In my opinion there's no reason to make low-resolution games if the style isn't retroish.

From what I see I would definitely choose the high res one, you can't go wrong...

I totally agree if this is the final result. The picture above looks nicer to me.

This is the background scaled down to 320x* with nearest neighbour in Photoshop. I quite like the result. Just wanted to add this since the second picture isn't really scaled down all that well.

(it's 640x* because when you use the forum's size thingy for img tags, it often adds all kinds of weird stuff :))

When you've gone the lengths to draw such a beautifully crisp clean vector-esque background, you don't wanna ruin it by re-sizing it and get all that jagginess.
Even if you'd want to go for a lo-res retro style, changing the size isn't the way to go; instead you'd need to manually draw non-antiailased lines and pixels and stuff.

Ok thanks for your opinions, I'll use the 640x480 one
