Hi, folks!

I've spent appr. 6 hours today to make this scrollable background, that I, indeed, don't need for a game, but for practising.

first version

I know that the perspective is quite wrong, but I tried it out in AGS, and when you walk from one side to another, the lack of correct perspective didn't bother me much. What do you think?

My fingers hurt. I've pixelled enough today, so I wanted to share this background with you. Do you have ideas, what I could add/take away/change? Thanks in advance fpr your C&C!

the shadow on the right looks a bit too dark. For the the rest I would say: why practice??  :)

If you make scrollabel backgrounds, perhaps you shouldn't use any perspective, at least not on the horizontal plane. Look at the MI1 start screen (before you enter the city), it's a long scrolling image so every house is painted without perspective.

BTW even though this isn't exactly my style (I'd have used more gradients and softer colours), this does look very cool indeed. Brighten/soften the shadow and it's very nice indeed. Maybe work on the grass a bit, it seems somewhat unnatural. It's the same throughout the field of depth and that doesn't work, you loose detail when you look further away. The tree does look very good though.

I used the old 256 color palette, so blurring or gradients aren't always possible, or at least very hard to make. I'll try to take out details in the hill-background, though. Thaks for your comments!

I feel the tiles on the roof make it a bit "flat" looking. They should probably be aligned with a vanishing point. Also, for some strange reason the shutters stand out way too much... is there a way you could make them more subtle? It's a very nice piece of art... keep working it.

Why don't you remove the black outline on the rooftop? You did it on the right one, but not on the middle and left.

My advice on the grass is: make it one colour and then add noise (4 or 5 %).

I think the style of this picture fits the mediterreanean theme very well. Keep it up!

Grtz, Stefan.

Oh, yeah, thanks, I forgot about the roof outlines.
