This is a background that I have made which if you haven't already realised is of the Moon. I plan to use this in my new, upcoming (not to mention first) AGS game which is set on the Moon. Anyway if you can give me some C&C on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Try giving the craters some depth not just round balls of colour.
You might want the crators to be more oval, too.
think of this background again...Ã, Remember as you may be making a 2d picture the thing you are drawing is 3d.
as you look at your craters you see how you have them all perfect circles, as someone said they should be more oval shape. also as it approches the horizon line they should become smaller vertically. plus due to the way craters are formed there should be a slight mound of "moon dirt" around each crater.
and last but not least it needs some shading not only on the craters but on the moon itself aswell.
but keep up the good work and i'm sure you'll get the hang of it
*Agreed with above*
Also, if you can draw circles with the programme already, I think that sun (?) deserves a more rounded shape.
Here's a picture I quickly threw together, to maybe give you a few ideas.

You could also use that for refrence. ;)

Admit it Farsight, you didn't draw this picture! You faked the whole thing in the desert outside Vegas! Look, those stars are obviously just black-painted midgets with ping-pong balls stuck to them!
Ahem...
I'd suggest that, if this is meant to be Earth's moon, the horizon line be made less curved - it's small but it's not
that small. The horizon should a near-straight line, as long as characters are intended to walk on this bg. You should also consider adding small mountains in addition to craters.
Thx everyone,
I was a bit lazy with the craters and Ozwalled that pic looks great.
I am using UP (Ultimate Paint) and will try to redo the back.
here's my two cents:
- What's that big yellow thing by the stars (I take it that it's the sun). If so make it a bit biger and more round. It looks a bit to squerish.
- Howcome the stars are red, yellow and blue. The easiest way of making stars is to draw little white dots and outlining some with a werry light blue.
- Awerythin else was already said.
You wouldn't actually be able to see that many stars so clearly, especially when they are next to a light source like the sun.
What program did you use to make that picture.
I'm just guessing it's Photoshop as it's so good.
I'm guessing you meant me.
I used Paint Shop Pro, but most of it wasn't anything too fancy (I used layers to speed me up, but really didn't need to, and I used a low opacity/ low density/ low hardness brush to do the stars in the background as well as the Sun. And some of the smaller craters are copied and pasted, sort of.).
Save for the sky, though, I'm sure that MS Paint or Ultimate Paint or whatever could handle this.
Unless you're not referring to me, in which case I feel like an ass.
I drew this some time ago...

Ignore the ground... I just couldn't get it right. This is mainly to show off my stars
Ozwalled I was referring to you and I am amazed that it was made in PSP.
I have PSP and Ultimate paint and yet I don't think I get the knack of things quite yet. I tried re-making my original but it didn't work out.
Haddas, those stars are truly amazing...... but they look too corny. I'm looking for a more realistic style. I got the white, blue, red stars (see original) off Space Quest 2. Earlier I tried re-making it but I was useless so I'm on the sidelines until I get the hang of it. That is why I am making this game for both practise on art, try and pick up a few skills and tricks and also so I can post the game which as I said earlier will be my first game. I tried a close-up of a crater which I may use as a background (with the character walking down it and up the other side).

Mr. Flibble is right though. with a light source that close and radiant (hi, radiant) you wouldnt be able to see any stars, and you said you wanted to go with a more realistic style
this latest pic... i dont know what is going on until you wrote it. if its supposed to be a crater, and not a flat blob (no offense, i thought it was the best definition) then you need to show it has depth, with shading, and texture (I'm not talking photoshops kind of textures) and detail. just simple black lines that show that this crater has contours would help a lot.
Can you mimic ozwalled's image for the purpose of your background. you could even just mimic his several times, so that you can get used to drawing this type of bg, i suppose.
For your crater, I think this is along the lines of what Scummbuddy is talking about, maybe. You coulkd probably make the deeper parts of the crater darker, too.

Still, it's amazing to consider what some lines that give a little texture can do (in this case, add the much-needed illusion of depth to the crater). Keep up the practicing.
As for the Sun washing out the stars... even if that's true (I'm guessing it is, but truly, I haven't the foggiest), I personally think that the sky WITHOUT stars would looks strange... like you forgot to add them or something. I'd suggest that you keep them in there and possibly take out the Sun if that sort of realism is important to ya'.
You know what? I think I'll grab me a bowl of cereals.
Ozwalled, you've made me fatter yet again.
Fatter?
Again?...
What?
...I'm sorry?....
Enjoy the cereal?...
Nice going Ozwalled!Ã, :-[
Yes I did try and put some texture in but as soon as I got to my second pic... Ultimate Paint fouled up. It wouldn't let me do anything so I restarted it and it still wouldn't go so I just posted that.
As for the sky... I was trying to decide whether to put in the sun, the earth, or just the stars. I will try and re-do the first back again . Also I thought the stars looked realistic as in real life they are just white dots in the sky.
