Hey everyone!
It might've been a little unnecessary to start a new topic, but the old one was mainly for the d-pics, so here's a new thread with the inventory items:

Here's the original ones for comparsion:

What I want is comments and crits on the finished edits, and some hints on how to make the clothes (the thermoweave underwear and janitor duds) look right. I'm not really good at shading clothes.
I'm most satisfied with the 4th and 13th pic.
Not bad. I would advise maybe more texture on some of them (especially the meal)
The gem should be glowing, also. Like, an animation or something.

I'm a begginer when it comes to shading bags, hehe.
I know, it SHOULD be glowing, but in SQ3, the desctiption does say that it's lost it's shine.
You shold also place the old pictures near the ones you changed.

Done. :)
Uploaded the old EGA inventory items for comparsion.
Don't constrain yourself to the original sprites, but look to them for help. You have more than 16 colours to work with, so make use of that. However, I do notice that some of your shading is not as good as the originals (you say so yourself). I particularly notice the ring, the coin and the ring. You should follow the shading of the original in that.
The underwear looks weird in both. Perhaps you could do something to make it more 3D?
As for the gem, I don't think it is rounded, it appears to be "Crystal-like shape". The dithering in your version makes it look rounded at the edges. You should make each side of the gem shaded separately.

I know, I think the gem looks more like a piece of popcicle in my edit.
What do you mean 'follow the original shading'? Because I did follow the shading of the EGA coin, but I added some colors.
They need more contrast.
In the coin, for example, you made the inner edge appear thicker by making the shading bigger. Also, you made the outer shading lighter, making it appear skinny. Together, that makes the coin look like a skinny strip of metal instead of a coin. Also, since you have better resolution to work with, I think you should add ridges to the coin.
Also, in the original torch, the darkest shade was almost at the edge, and the transition from the smaller handle part to the larger bulb holding part was very well defined. You moved the darkest shade to the middle, and blurred out the transition.
Ok, here's an attempt to follow Babar's advice:

* Changed the coin a bit (still doesn't look right, though)
* Reshaded the flashlight
* Added more contrast to some pics
* Changed the shading on the orium
Much better! :o
