Title: Mummy Character C&C
Post by: Penguinx on Mon 19/04/2004 02:55:19
I've drawn a new mummy character. First things first, his lower jaw is supposed to be missing. Other than that, have at. Be harsh, be mean, be cruel, I like a challenge!

That's really cool!

The only thing that stuck out to me was the skull looks more like a mask than a skull wrapped up.  Maybe have a strand of the cloth over his 'forehead' area?

The shading/details are great!

I mistook, at first, the piece of cloth hanging down by the elbow for his thumb.  I thought the hand was too big.  But now that I see what it is, it's spot on.

Cool, nice shading!
I think the right arm is a tad too short.
And the left leg needs straightening out IMO, too bowlegged.

Good job! Can't wait to see it moving. :)

you art is good, but it looks more like a strapped skeletton than a mummie

to my mind mummie arent that slim !

But, that's a point a view

It's teh cool! Maybe he wasn't not a Pharaoh, that's why its body is not in that good state of conservation and he seems a skeleton more than a mummy?

I think this is going to be haaaard to animate! You seem a professional, sure you are get used to be more hours in front of a monitor than we are, but this is going to be difficult... If you reply "I'll be able to animate all the characters with such a high detail level" I'll be happy ( :)) But the experiece tells me that you should go for something more simple at the beginning  :-\.

awesome work!

but I have to agree a little with leshaussebons.
it doesn't really look like a human that got "mummyfied" right after his/her death. mummies don't rot fast. so it couldn't possibly just have the skeleton remaining. maybe some skin, hair etc.

other than that, awesome

About animating this piece: It isn't so much difficult as it is time consuming. I've got a pretty decent method together where I draw flat-shaded versions of all the frames and then add all the details at once. It kinda keeps me on track and simplifies things a bit.

I did want this mummy to be a bit sparse. I've got some mummies that are heavier, and some a little fleshier. This one, specifically, was meant to be discernable by his skeleton-like self.

Maybe I should ditch the skull and give him a head with tightly draped flesh and rot?

Penguinx,

YOU SUCK, YOUR SPRITE SUCKS, and EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS THREAD SUCKS!

Ah, I can't be harsh and mean.  It's a really great looking sprite.  Well, now time to animate the sucker, eh?  That's the tricky part!

I'll animate it when I'm good and ready!

Seriously, I am going to fix his right arm, raise his knees a bit further up on the legs, and try a fleshier face first.

I am going to animate it, though. Walk, attack, and death are in order.

Yeah, maybe some rotting flesh on the face would be cool.  Depends on where you wanna go; he looks cartoonish now, which is cool.   More rotting flesh could give it a more "real" look.  Can't wait to see results.

Contrast. Thats the only thing I see. You need more contrast. Other then that its amazing.

looks really cool, but i think the legs from the knees down need altering a bit as they seem a little too short and im not sure if the feet are 100% apart from that its great.

Its not really that the lower legs are too short, its just that the upper legs are too long. Just raise the knees and it will work fine. Also, I agree about the left leg, I was actually thinking the word "bowlegged" too.  ;D Anyway, good luck.
