Hi guys!

Well, I made this music:
Just so you know, this is a very rough version as Im sure you can hear!.
It was meant to be a prototype almost, to see if I should really work on it.
We were gonna use it for the menu of our game, not for the in-game play.
If you guys are keen to edit it, please do! I look forward to seeing it up here.
If it sounds good then we'll most probably put it in our game menu and I'd appreciate the help.

I've been working on another version for the in-game though! I personally think it's much better.
I'll link it here - have a listen...

Screw the French! (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/ScrewtheFrench.MID)

Thanks for the help in advance!!!

EDIT: No offence to the French - I meant, screw my previous 'French' songs. :)

Yeh, my friend and I are kinda making a game.

My friend made this piece on his electronic piano for the title screen:

French L'intro.mid (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/French_L'intro.MID)

I'm no musician, and neither of us are too skilled in editing MIDIs digtially, so as a kind request I was wondering if anybody could edit this and kinda just fix up the clarity of the notes?

Thanks guys

It sounds familiar, very familiar...

Anyways, I like it. I would add some more instruments though as it sounds quite plain as it is now. It definately needs some more instruments. Also, there are parts where the melody stops all of sudden and it sounds a bit weird.

If you don't mind I could try making an edit based on this tune.

the chord progression is very familiar, indeed

the playing is kinda sub par and jarring. You need some sort of rythm section to accentuate the down beats, so all the arsis stuff can stand out without making you get a hicccup. Furthermore, this is really not good music for an adventure game, unless it's for a timed intro or something. It's distracting, and needs to be orchestrated more 'sweet' if possible.

If you're looking for a midi quantifier, most programs can do that somewhat.

You can just open it in a sequencer or something and make the note lengths longer. They are so short that it sounds unnatural. Also using an instrument with a built in decay, like a piano, would hide it a bit too.

The way it ends is weird also, it seems to finish on the major I chord, and then goes to vi for no apparent reason (the a minor chord). Not only are the two last chords really long, it doesn't sound finished when you end it like that, so I would just take the last chord off.

Thanks for the critics guys, but really I wasn't asking for any. I'm no musician and know nothing of what you guys just told me to do really.

As you can hear the quality isn't too great and I was just asking if someone could help me out and fix it.

Thanks guys.

Hi!

Your tune sounds very interesting, though not as a background music for a main menu.

Though I'm not very keenminded on editing or writing in midi, I did something at my guitar. This sample doesn't really sound like your original, because I didn't want to "copy" it due to my lack of free time.

When you appreciate the sound of a guitar in some way, then contact me, and I'll be pleased to make it better, sounding more like you have played it at first.

Here you go! (http://www.gwebspace.de/hassu-irc/ScrewTheFrench.rar)

If you should need some other guitar sounds in your game, don't hesitate to contact me. I'll be grateful to help you.

cheers

I appreciate the reply... And your well spent time!Ã,  :D
But, how do you play .rar files?
(Excuse the ignorance)

EDIT: And also, 'Screw the French' is meant to be in-game music whereas 'French L'intro' was for the menu... Just clearing that up!  8)

Sorry, but I had to pack the files in a .rar, because my webspace-provider doesn't allow .mp3 files.

Hey man... not a problem at all!

Your guitar version was cool. It's basically an improvised solo over the basic chords of my version right? Sounds interesting (Did you use two guitars?)
I'd like to keep my chord progression the same but the guitar sounds good, so I'll have to think about that. It's meant for the in-game, so it'll be really quiet in the background.

Thanks for the contribution dude!  ;D

Didn't use two guitars. Just set one looping in background, and improvising on it. Making another song in this style (background loop + impro) is no problem and should be done very quickly. With changing background it would be some work to do, since I am not a musician at all.

But I have background-loop-stocks en gros. If you need something, may it be spooky, relaxed, fantastic or something else, let me know.
