Yay...

I like the drums, but not the other part...

Any tips?

Edit: Here's another one I made:

The first song:

I don't know what the scenery will look like (although it says tropical party) or how the mode of the particular room will be but it sounded to me that you've just thrown in all the drums you could find and hope it to work out.   :)

It sounds as it's in the middle of a chase of some kind...

The second song:

This one I liked a lot. Although I think there's room for more "creapiness" to the tune. Try maybe make it even slower?
"With a loaded gun, and sweet dreams of you."

Actually, I didn't make these for a game. I just made them for the fun of it. You're right though, the first song does sound somewhat like a chase scene. And I did just randomly kind of place drum beats and hope that it sounded good.

I spent a little more time on the second. I like the sound of it also, and I might try to make it into a longer piece. I don't know where I could use it though.

I need practice so that I can make music for a World War II Adventure I'm currently working on.

A fun thing to do is to just experiment with sounds and see where they lead you. From there you can create the room, situation or whatever that you "see" when you hear that particular tune. The horror-tune could easily be used in catacombs, dark corridors etc. I bet there were a lot of those in WW2 for instance.   ;)

I don't know what might be typical WW2-music but I wouldn't throw in all the drums I could find in that particular case. Maybe some flutes? I think I'm going to experiment with some music on my own, what program do you use?

First of all, I don't really like the first one. The whole piano thing sounds too, crazy and random, plus the drums are very random, and the whole thing seems too crazy and repititive to actually add something to a scene.

The second one is much better IMO, though still needs a tiny bit of work. For example, it needs a clear time signature. I dn't know if you know what a time signature is, so I'll try to explain it to you:

A time signature is the thing that tells you how many beats are in a bar of music. For example, most music you hear on the radio today is in 4/4 time. This means that there are 4 beats in the bar. Listen to a song, and if you're in any way musical, try tapping your foot to the song. Most likely, you'll be taping your foot on every beat, making four taps per bar.

Take this peice I'm workin on for my game for example... Tap your foot to it. Now try saying "One-Two-Three-Four" on the different beats of the bars. Get it? This song is in 4/4 time. It doesn't stray from that at all.

Is this making sense? *Hopes and continues*

Some songs have different time signatures... A waltz for example, is in 3/4 time. Try taping your foot (or dancing) to a waltz. You'll hopefully be taping "One-Two-Three, One-Two-Three". Three beats in a bar.

Now that THAT'S over, on to your song... The second one is hard to place the time signature, it seems to jump all over the place. Normally in songs, chords change at the end (Or sometimes if your CRAAAZY, in the middle) of a bar.

I tried to figure out the time signature for your song... It sounded like this to me:

One bar of 6/6 time, then a bar of 4/4, then another bar of 6/6, then a bar of 2/4... Then I stopped. Needless to say, if you want the music to be background music, and not to have the player's full attention on the music, you'll want something pleasing to the ear, and not jumping all over the place.

That's just my opinion, being a jazz musician and all. Hope this didn't fly over your head!
I make music.
