Title: My basic DOTT Style room
Post by: Joseph DiPerla on Sun 26/07/2009 23:34:43
So, I am trying to create a Star Wars Game using DOTT Style graphics. Unfortunately, I wont be using my graphics because I am horrible at it. Anyway, this is my first attempt at a DOTT style room. What else can I do to improve it?

I'm no artist, but I can still offer some suggestions.

If you look at DOTT rooms you'll notice they dont have any black outlines, so I'd ditch those first. Then I notice in most DOTT rooms the floors and walls are different colours.

Even though DOTT has warped shapes, it still fits a fixed perspective. Yours seems to have warped the perspective too.

As simple as your room is so far, you might want to start thinking about a light source, and shade your walls accordingly.  And lastly, apart from being an empty room, think about what the room is actually for, and whether what you've drawn suits it. Hope that helps.

It's a bit early to comment to much, but be careful about keeping your curves neat; for example, the curves on the door frame look a bit wobbly, and pixel-style tends to exaggerate things like that.  Keep at it! :)

Google for "5 point perspective", this might give you some inspiration.

Edit: here is a good video about 4 point perspective http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iOSjRm0Rkw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iOSjRm0Rkw)
