i downloaded a trial version of music masterworks (so i can only use one instrament- grand piano) and just through this together in about 5 maybe 10 minutes

Umm...I'm not good at the music thingy but if I had to hear this for longer than a minute I would turn the speakers off :) It's kind of annoying. You should make a repetive theme, make it a bit slower. Also try to add some rythm, dont change the tempo so much.
With my luck it's a hand granade...

lol, im no musician i just randomly place notes and hope i get a tune  :P LOL  ;D this may be good as a backing instrament tho lol

well the link works. so it must be your computer. try changing what sound device your computer uses to play MIDI files. this option can be found:
(on win XP) contole panel >> sounds, speech and audio Devices >> Change the sound scheme >> click the 'Audio' tab >> choose an option from the 'MIDI playback devices' scroll down list at the bottom of the page.

Honestly once you said you just played random notes, then it became clear to me because all it sounds like is someone hitting random keys on a piano.

Now granted, it could work in some sort of paranoia/supernatural type scene to heighten the "I have no idea what's going on" feel, but you can't just place random notes and hope you get a tune.

I've never had any formal music training, however I have and can make good to excellent songs, it takes time, and it takes practice, and it takes a good ear to hear what is wrong with the song, and be willing to change it.

You need to learn what the notes are (not where they are on the scale, but what they represent time wise), that's important, this is how you plan your song and keep the time flowing without it sounding like garbage.

well i know about time (eg. a note like a 'O' is 4 beats etc) it's just coming up with a tune that i have trouble with but never mind i'll practise and try to get better  :P

Now as a philosophy in music (and in all arts) there are things that are 'random'. like aleatoric music (alea=dice in Latin). The thing is that these 'random' things have a base, a philosophy and a reason to be there. Yours as it seems does not. I'm not judging since I"ve not heard your track.

Firstly, when you make music, even if it's random. You want to know what type of song your making. That's why I compose for games is because they can give me details on the scene and I'll compose it. And yes I could never find any tutorials but look into that!
