Hello,
I'm new to this whole thing and I decided to start out by making practice backgrounds. To start out I just did the spider cave screen from King's Quest III. I just did it for practice, not for any serious implementation into a game or anything. But anyways it is here:

Thank you!
I rtecognized it immediately!
The web seems too thick; more like broken glass than a spider's web. Don't be afraid to use photographs in your art, and then touch them up a little.
You're right! The web is too thick. I was using the exact same layout for everything as the original screen, including the relative thickness of the web to everything else. But I took your advice and changed it and I think it looks better...

Thanks so much for your input.
I can't find anything wrong.
Damn you.
Bloody brilliant.
Oh! Except for a bit where the tree meets the sky...there's a sort of splodgey look to it...
Okay, I'm not exactly sure what area you were talking about, but I cleaned up the top of the foreground tree a little...it does look a lot better. It's amazing how much small improvements like these help the whole background look better!

Does that look better?
the water's blue! It's great and all, but water's not blue
The sky's a bit too blue as well, in my opinion. The rest of the scene looks great!

It looks great to me! Good atmosphere.
I changed the water a bit...I never really liked it as I had trouble making it look right. But here's the new version:

Maybee the stones and so are a little blury, like if they are out of focus.. a little more sharp edges might bee good, but who am i to critizise...
For your first background, I am very impressed. The spider web looks 10x better now, also. The only things that really catch my eye that could be improved are the sky gradient (it doesn't look natural) and the trees in the background being too blurry. Aside from that, I think you did an awesome job. :)
That water looks amazing now!
Okay, really nice job! I have just a few comments: everything has a light blurry effect, and that's cool, but the spiderweb should probably be blurred a tad, too. Also, you might want to try to add a bit more texture to the trees, namely the one to the left of the cave. Maybe make the surface look more like bark.
Other than that, you've done an excellect job on the background. I will look forward to any games you make in the future! Keep up the good work.
Okay, I'm thinking of actually doing a KQIII VGA remake (if no one else turns out to be doing it...), so i put it into the AGS engine real fast to try it out. I made a preliminary Gwydion sprite too.

Looking good to me :) Only thing that could be changed in my eyes, is to maybe make things a little lighter. Is that sprite a repaint, or brand new?
Would you please upload the 320*200 version?

what makes you think there is a 320x200 version?
The resolution is clearly scaled.... right?
Watch this and tell me what you think!!

I can't believe you wasted your time making that.
Anyways, the game is 640*480 resolution, that screenshot is resized. And I didn't realize it was dark...I'm working on a flat-panel display so it's hard to judge how some things will appear on regular monitors. I'll try to lighten it up a little bit.
