Title: my first background attempt (small cell), UPDATED
Post by: skw on Mon 18/04/2005 00:06:33
At first I want to welcome all of you, this is just my first post.

OK, this is my first background (small cell, carcer) and it need some critics.
I drew it on paper, then I did a "small" paintover in Paint Shop Pro 7.

(Image deleted, look below for the new version)

So, what do you think? ;)

Wow, that really looks great.

1. Those black comic lines that give the walls their pattern are a bit too thick.
2. What is this green spraying on the ground floor? Mold or something?

appreciating cheers

P.S. Welcome and have a good time!  :)

I agree with what Nihilyst said about the smaller lines. Though I think they would look better if they were a dark green like you've done on the top of the cell.

The window looks like it's fake. Maybe a blur, or something.

I love the atmosphere of the whole thing. It's really nice. I think if you made some darker shadows in the opposite corners of the light, it would amplify that effect.

The cell looks old aswell. I'm not a big fan of the mold or whatever it is, but I think if you blured it, it might look better. I'd add stains, cuts, wears, misplaced stuffing, etc.

Looks really cool! You may want to mess around with the door to make it fit the rest of the background, though. (I.E. the window as mentioned before)

Looks really good, but what is up with the noise? My only complaint is that the lighting is a bit too well balanced in the room, if the only light source is  what looks like a hole on the ceiling.

Update:

Thank you for opinions and suggestions. These scattered things on the floor are just entrails (sawdust or something similar) from the trashed "wall pads" (it's not a regular brick wall). On the other hand this picture really looks better without them:

I also changed the "fake" window and did some lightning modifications.

By the way: I have got an old and crappy monitor (with lowered brightness level) and this is the reason why my basic picture looks so poor, I suppose... ;)
