tell me what you think
I like the cow, but this background needs a major overhaul. At its present state, it's not too good.
But with time & patience and the help of the critics lounge, we will make it great.
The cow looks larger than the tree, and the house is floating above the ground for some reason.
Um, you might wanna try some of these: http://www.agsforums.com/acres.shtml
They'll come in use, believe me.
Not to sound patronising, but how old are you? The way you draw makes me think you're pretty young.
i'm only 13 well i'll be turning 14
I really like the cow. An dthe tree has a lot of personality, too.
A lot more shading might make things look a lot better, though.
I redid the whole background but I removed the cow since I'll be using a cow sprite

Second one looks much better. If you are using MS Paint, (which you look like you are) I would suggest using the rectangle tool for the windows, doors, etc. And the Line tool for the sides, etc. So that everything looks more realistic. After doing that, REMOVE YOUR BLACK OUTLINES because they kinda make it look like the game is meant to look like an old Bugs Bunny cartoon (no offense)...
(if you don't want to do these, just e-mail me your backgrounds and I will enhance them with PhotoShop Pro)
I liked the frist one better. The cow fit fine.

I modified the following:
-Added a sun
-removed black outlines
-changed the clouds
-put cow back
BRAVO!!!! Love the cow!!! But seriously, if you want to enhance the windows and door, use the rectangle tool. I like the clouds better as well. The house also looks good. I see nothing really wrong with this background. Mabye you could add some little plots of taller grass here and there, some stray lighter spots on the house like faded paint, and if you make the cow a character, you could make it walk back and forth around the field while the player character explores (unless you are the cow :o ) Anyway, if you want me to make the house's walls into really detailed bricks, I can do that, and mabye you should add some lighting from the sun (I can do this for you too), if you want me to do these, e-mail me your background at akumayo@hotmail.com and I will enhance it. Bottom Line: Pretty good job so far!!!

Tree looks bigger than house ZOR, and there is no roof, skullkidd's is much better, the only thing I like about your's is the cloud on the left!!!
(okay, so I like the tree's bark to) :-[
Age doesn't really mean much when it comes to art. It's mainly based on experience and the time you spend to work on a piece. Zor's edit is slightly better but I can tell it was just a quick edit. Here's my edit:
It's incomplete, but by looking at it you can see some of the basic techniques I used. I'm not all that good at background drawing but this gave me some practice.
Quote- The clouds are just circles, with darkened outline and some highlighting.
- The trees are symetrical and I added shading, splatter grass and shadows based on the position of the sun.
- I added some grass to the front for extra scenery.
- The sun uses a similar shading technique to the trees.
That's about it, I'll have a go at the building later. Note that I am also 13, turning 14 soon.
Ravenfusion, is it just me, or do those clouds look like inflated condoms?
:P Just you, sicko. They were supposed to be cartoony.
Yes, it really was a quick edit, I could of spent ALOT more time on that background.
QuoteNote that I am also 13, turning 14 soon.

Me too! I just turned 14 on the 2nd!
BTW: That is an odd resolution you're using, skullkid...
BTWBTW: HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!!!!!!

I really like ravenfusion's background and those clouds look great :)
You're getting better. All that is needed is to fix up the lines and double pixels. :)

I tried not to edit much because I didn't think there was much too change, I just had some fun with it. Nice picture.
Hm, we seem to be moving from childish to stylistic to some sort of ultra naivistism a la Cpt Mostly.
Well, this forum doesn't have an age-limit...so...keep on playing
Thanks guys! and I did two quick edits for fun

I like this whole style. It's not very professional looking, but that's how Prohart got famous... well... sort of.
you certainly are getting better with each edit you do, skullkid. there's just one thing I wanna point out that I really really noticed.
With your nighttime edit, it looks like the stars actually follow the contour of the house.... see when it comes to the roof the stars seem to uUP! and then sort of 'level out' again? And there also seems to be a very distinct line where the stars 'stop'
That doesn't happen normally. Stars go right to the BOTTOM of the horizon, and are usually less crammed together than that... If I get the time I might to a quick pain-over to show what I mean...
EDIT:
okay..... so this is SUPER SUPER SUPER quick.

Basically I just made the windows a bit bigger, respaced the stars and changed the outline of the tree foliage. It's not a masterpiec, but it's not meant to be. The quality also isn't that great, so ignore the blurry bits.....
