For those who frequent the agdi forums, you'll have seen these already. I just wanted to lay them down here too, to get tips and reactions..

uh? first one looks extremely familiar?
For the others... are those 3D-rendered? At least difference between sky and everything else leads me to think of it.

It looks pretty ace - but i don't like the light coming from the streetlamp - it's a too big a contrast to the rest of the scene - making it look like a solid block of light and it doesn't look 'right'

Ok - just read that back to myself - do i make sense!?  ??? :)
Eagles may fly high, but badgers don't get sucked into jet engines.

are you sure you drew that first one as an original, or is it an edit? it's just that i remember playing a game ages ago which had a background which seems very familiar to that. either way it doesn't look bad, but the backgrounds are so different in style it's not funny.

Yes, the first one is an edit of the first scene from Space Quest 1. The style difference is mostly due to the fact that I haven't been at this long enough to have developped a specific style.

Okay, first off, what I assume to be two versions of the second background both look fantastic. However, the 'Space Quest' background still has a few minor issues.

Especially around here:

Here's my take:

I think I found the one region you forgot to double-horizontal-resolution-ify. That being the black shadows at the bottom. Also, the bottom edge of the wall (where it meets the floor) looked like it had been badly clipped (?). You know, like it was rendered in 3D and the polygons didn't line up.

And you probably need something like this in your SQ remake bg...

...if it makes any sense! (I have no clue how light casts in outer space)

Farsight

Aha!!!
Now I caught you with a SQ background asking for improvements. Just joking. I am making a SQ2 remake and I can't draw so JWar redid the first playable background in SQ2 EGA to try and show me how to do them. But I still can't. :'( Anyway...sorry the second background looks good except for the blood which doesn't suit the background and the lighting perspective from the lamp which it kind of in the wrong place.
Guess who's back??
