Hey everyone,
i haven't really delved into the artistic side of PCs yet, but when a mate had a garage sale and needed to sell a pretty recently purchased Paint Shop Pro Version 8, i took my chance. For $30, it was a decent deal. So, within minutes i was home, frantically installing PSP8. I've now done my first quick PSP Image, and while it does use a variety of preset Picture Tube images, it looks pretty cool. Check it out below.
Cheers,

Wow. A grass. And a blurred golf ball!
High class!

...
Better than mspainted cars with rectangular wheels though.

When I read the title I thought this was about the PlayStationPortable... -_-

Why don't you post this on the Penny Arcade forums? I'm sure the kind and helpful people there* will appreciate* your endeavours into professional digital art*. It opened my eyes, perhaps it will do the same for you too.

And no I'm not telling you why those asterixes are there...

The only problem is that he posted in General Discussions instead of the Critics Lounge... Other than that, I don't think anyone is justified by mocking Flukeblake. I've seen way worse pictures in CL, drawn from people older than him.

I think the picture is blurry (that seems to be a problem with anyone starting PSP) and the high grass looks like it's coming from nowhere, it would look better if you didn't have the tall parts. And it is empty indeed, try putting some mountains and clouds on the back.

I think it's quite nice. But is the golf ball also one of them picture tubes? In that case no wonder it looks good, but more of your own work put into it would be more impressive!

Threads like this is why I just love the internet.
The other one started by [lgm] was great too.

This almost beats the comments in the locked threads over at the Games in Production-Forum.

Only one thing to say:
When somebody succeeds in doing something great, there are almost immediately tons of people patting on his shoulder, telling him he did a great job.
But if there's somebody who keeps littering the forums with useless threads and comments, nobody feels the urge to tell him to stop.
Then, suddenly, another person stands up and delivers a well deserved verbal headbutt, only to be attacked for it afterwards. I don't get it.

(English isn't my first language, as you may have guessed by now, but I hope my message is clear. I'm not telling you to be intolerant assholes in general, I'm telling you to be intolerant when there's obviously no other choice.)

I've had this experience.  It's like raising toddlers and praising them everytime they learn to draw a line with a crayon of a different color, or make a potty (despite having mastered that years beforehand). This isn't a slight against Fluke's maturity, just a familiar interaction.

The PSP, PS, etc., programs are damned impressive and I'm glad you like them.  However, once you've spotted something cool, it might be worthwhile to make several attempts at a picture before demonstrating how cool something can be made with essentially a cut-n-paste paintbrush.   If you've put some effort into something (doesn't even have to be game-related as we've seen time and time again), give it a go in the critic's lounge.  Be prepared for some praise, and probably more-so criticism, but generally a very large helping of good advice.

For this and other events, it might be worthwhile to re-make a background you've worked on or re-tune an instrumental piece if you're hoping to share how much better a given thing works for you.  The main reason for harsh responses to your threads seems to be that you want to gather hours worth of attention and posting in exchange for the 15 minutes you've put into an idea yourself.
