I'd like to apolagise for the long thread firstly. :)

I really wanted to try and improve my Pixel Art and grasp of Human Anatomy, so I found a Stock image from Deviant Art and decided to start from there. I'm generally unsure how to go about drawing a human, (On paper, I am a terrible artist, I find it thrustrating drawing stick figures properly!) What I have is what I've learnt and adapted through numerous books I've gone through over the years.

Firstly: The original stock image. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38696624/

Basically, This is how I started off and progressed.

I am really hoping I can get some tips on how to start creating a character, and how to pose them correctly, (Which is a problem I had in the end. Which gave the character an unnatural pose)

Once I created the basic shapes and fixed up some details, I went on to colouring. Another flaw of mine, I usually just decide the point of my light source, and from the edges, colour inwards with a lighter, or darker shade. I'm looking for ways to improve or give a better effect.

I need some help on my pose, in the original stock, she's siting down, with her arm supported on the floor, but now it looks like she's in a sit-up esque' pose with her arm supporting HER up. Any help appreciated.

I like to think I've improved from the day I stumbled apon these forums two years ago when I was 11, and started scribbling some ideas down.

I was going through my first thread on this forum, (Was on a different account I had created a long.. long time ago.. ) and found my very first character.

(Nope.. That's not zoomed.. amazing resolution eh?, used for spectaculism)

Tallented... Wasn't I?

Sorry about any spelling mistakes I may have made, I STILL am only 13!
(Shamless atempt for pity points)

Thanks in advanced.

I like your picture, that's actually, imo, a very good way of approaching. What you need to check out once more, if you want it to lookk realisticare the following:
-The legs look a bit like sausages. Make knees, muscles show as well. I don't mean making her muscular, but our limbs tend to get the shape from where our muscles and bones are located.
-Same thing with the hands.
-You see that in the original picture the girl is sitting more straight, she doesn't look like she's having a hard time, so I would suggest making more clear angles, her torso seems to be tense the whole time (your picture).

Well, try these for first, I guess someone better an artist can say more, but this is what hits me. Btw, the superman guy looks great, though I can see you've developed quite a lot. Keep up the good work :)

You've done a good job with the "umbrella girl" but, like Tuomas says, she could use a bit more work.

I noticed from the first image where you started to map out her outline that the legs looked a bit like they were made of rubber (or sausages lol), and it didn't change as the image progressed. Her hands and her posture could also use some touching up. And...to me...the nose seems a bit off. Oh, and one final crit, her right arm (the forward arm) doesn't really seem to attach properly. It makes it look like she's some type of puppet.

But aside from all that, you've done a great job! With a few minor edits I think this could turn into a nice sprite.

well, i dont know much about art, and unfortunetely ( ;D) not much about female anatomy, but i always find it easier to just start out with basic shapes, en then go from there. here is just a 2 minute paintover of your sprite. its sometimes easier just doing a quick rough sketch of the char, just to get the feel. ps, her left arm in my sketch is way to short.   :-\
