ok i got my tablet this evening so after a quick mess around i went about starting my first BG. There is more to the image i just dont want to show it all (i shouldnt really show this at all but its no real suprise that this will feature in the game, given my last art post.)

Quite happy with it, i love the wacom already, it really does speed the process up. Ã, ;D

The contrast needs to be way highers. The leaf section should be way larger. Look at a tree. The leaves are about twice the height of the trunk. The roots could go out farther too. The tree also looks as if it is going to fall of the cliff, make the ground area bigger. The colors look good and the blending is really nice.

I really like your drawing style, looks like this will be a really good BG.  I agree with Evil about the contrast and the roots.  I think there could be less leaves, though.  With the angle the tree is leaning, I think you could do without the top left group of leaves.  I also think that the leaves could blend in better with the trunk by having them curve into it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.
