My Graffiti

Recently, I made some friends from a town about 3 miles away from mine. These guys do tags (burners, graffiti...) and I decided to make my own graffiti. I don't plan to actually plan to tag up a wall, but I just drew this in about 45 mins.



I think its pretty good. It's my initials. I couldn't really figure out any other stylish fonts, so I drew this as best as I could. I just want to know if it needs more detail or clean ups.

The "H" is too wide. And some of the blue connecting lines are not positioned right.

I personally don't do graffiti, too expensive. There are but a few good pieces around where I live (there were a few very good ones on a gym hall, untill soneone used a sandblaster and erased them. All that work, time and money, gone with the wind). There are a lot of tags, but that has never impressed me, except this.

Well, d'uh. Marc Ecko and his tag are very known, he even has his own video game. No way would the government let him get away with that if it was real.
Still, it impressed me that I watched it again and again.

Jet, could you please explain the blue connecting lines? Are they the lines that go around the letters or the line thats in the background connecting to the arrow? I agree with you that graffiti is expensive, especially since theres so many things on the market that could easily get rid of graffiti.

I've been on a lot of graffiti competitions (just watching, not competing of course) and I've seen a lot of beautiful pieces, so I like to belive I can tell if it's good or not and I'm sorry to say that compared to those it's not much to look at. For starters I suggest using pen and paper rather than Paint and study the works of masters. I also would suggest watching some movies like "Wildstyle" to understand where it all came from. Without a doubt, it takes years to learn this artform, but I suppose that goes for any art. Sorry if this post came out a bit arrogant, I just couldn't express myself better

There is some really nice ones in my town, some guys (or girls) tagged all over the shed at the community gardens were my sister volunteers. Anyway it was so nice, that when the cops caught the guys and offered to have them paint over, the gardeners said they wanted to keep it. There’s is also a really nice one on the Arbutus Café

Not bad Jet, but I think it lacks some detail. I definately have to watch American Graffiti or Wildstyle. People have reccomended those movies to watch so I'll have to rent them. Thanks for the critiques!

A few things i have changed, not that i know jackshit about graffiti  .
*Made the main text lighter.
*Put another arrow on the other side.
*Made some of the white/blue highlights black.

uhh... thanks for the paint over flukeblake, but some colors clash, like the letters inside the letters, took me a while to see those.

I'd say the biggest problem on your scetch is the sloppy (and choppy) shape of the letters. For example the lower part of "C" is thinner than the upper part. And I'd also loose the arrow thingies.

I truly hope you're not going to go outside and ruin a perfectly nice view by sticking those awful aerosolpaints on some private wall where the janitor has to work hours to remove it and then laugh and feel good about it!

But then again, that's not what you're going to do, is it ? I'm very suspicious of your friends, though. Have they been playing too much GTA?

Anyhoo, I'm probably not the best person to judge the graffitiness of art, as the only things that appeal to me in grafitti is either if it is amusing, or if it is incredibly awesome.

To answer both of you, they do graffiti but I don't, I just wanted to see if I could do something stylish, because I like the way graffiti looks. I don't want to ruin a building or a wall. Im not going to waste my time doing graffiti when it will just get cleaned up. And Babar, if I was going to lay a burner down, I would definately spend more time to make something better.
