I've been working on this midi for a while, and I think I now consider it finished - it's a song with non-existent lyrics, but I might decide to add them one of these days.

Well, it's not like my usual stuff, because I've been experimenting. The style is something like symphonic metal, I assume. It doesn't have any complex guitar riffs, but at least it's not repetitive.

It's 4:53 long... link: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/herguardian.mid

It tried to make it sound as good as possible for a midi. I don't know when I'll be able to escape the midi phase, but I find it difficult mostly for two reasons:
a) I can't find and/or afford good software for it - cubase is like 400 euros...FL Studio is horrible, and trackers are just not my thing.
b) I can't find anything that emulates an electric guitar with any close resemblance to reality and/or with a bearable sound.

khnum

I really like the melody  ;D
Anyway, i feel something wrong with the drums.. don't know exactly what, but i'm not sure about them...
Good job anyway

Andail

It's good, there's a nice retro atmosphere to it.
A bit too much cymbals perhaps...you could vary the drums a bit and stay off the cymbals for some periods...or it could be the hi-hat that simply "crashes" for too long a period of time

Thanks for the comments :)

I do like the drums, so I don't know. I won't change the midi, but I'll certainly keep the cymbals in mind when I make a high quality version (which won't be any time soon).

Domino

Reminds me of playing DOOM, which isn't a bad thing.

It would be great DOOM level music.  Good Job!!

edit: i might not be hearing it the way you intended it to be, my sound card might not be able to play it the way you composed it.

It sounds pretty good for a midi, a bit cluttered I think, but that's probably not your fault since the instruments will sound different depending on what midi support the listener has.  If you want a great guitar sound without having an actual guitar (and the talent to use it), I highly recommend Slayer.  It does a pretty good simulation of guitar riffs and melody without being incredibly expensive.  You'd need something that could handle vsti's of course, like Reason or Renoise.  I'm sure there are some free vsti's out there as well but this is the best guitar vsti I've found, and certainly the best sounding.

Paper Carnival

Well I already know about Slayer, but I still don't like its sound. But thank you anyway, I might find something else.

This sounds good, but it's expensive http://www.soundsonline.com/Quantum-Leap-Ministry-Of-Rock-pr-EW-173.html
