Very, very nice. The only problem I can see, is that some parts aren't completely coloured in... like the black foreground in the center, you cen see a few little white bits around it...

Just fix things like that up, and I think that'd do. ;)

It looks very blurry to me, almost lik its been softened maybe sharpen it up a bit?

Most of the bg looks a bit out of focus IMO, that's something I would change.

Edit: Damn you Zooty, you made me look like a fool  ;D

Also, the black thing (very technical eh? :P) in the top left corner looks a little unfinished...

I think it's just JPG compression. I assume (hope) he has the original in psd or pcx or bmp or something similar.

Everything is off kilter - i feel a bit dizzy. Nice composition tho - I would like to see what sort of characters you have that go with this BKG.

I like this BG, although everything looks a wee bit too skew...

* Cartoony style, which you're going for, as it seems - feels almost right.
* JPG compression proves its worth only with photos, for posting BG-s use GIF or PNG instead.
* if your bg is that blurry even without JPG compression, try to clean up lines alot.
* dg is right. This light and some other places (rightmost door handle, white box things at the foreground) seem a bit rushed.
* Improvement - start this with trying out different colors. Color choice is somewhat holding bg's beauty back right now, I think that changing colors and finding best palette would make everything alot better. Floor color irritates most right now, i think.
* Try to contrast out more important and interactable things, they seem all like one flowing mass right now - or is it just because of blurryness? You decide.

I'd love to see characters for this game. As I said - cartooniness(sp?) is very fine, not everyone could get this to feel right.

It looks fine.  With a little polish here and there it will be perfect.

EXCEPT!!!  you forgot the couch in front of the TV!  Is one supposed to STAND while watching TV?

this is a good point, when designing a room and its contents, try to have a good reason and place to put things. the 'plasma' tv looks a little out of place in what appears to be a kitchen, as well as being blaced next to a door. You could also probably afford to shorten the room in width a little.

Keep up the good work.

that's not neciseraly troo. The zackmcracken game had the couch next to the TV and not in front of it. So insted of looking in to the screen you would only see the side of the TV in that position. And also in the same game the kitchen and the living room are in the same room.
So I don't see the problem in the room composition. But I would also say that it looks wierd. Try adding a couch or at least a sofa in fornt of the TV.

I've had appartments that looked more or less like this.
Doors are a bit small compared to the fridge that's further away.
I also think you overdid the skewing a bit. Particularly the shelf over the sink and the tv-table are challenging physics as we know them.
What is that grey rectangle up by the roof on the back wall?

That said, I also agree with all the positive things said here!Ã, Ã,  :)

Here's my try at a cartoony style from a while back. (http://home.no.net/thanma/the_cell/storage.png) Might help, might be shameless self promoting. You be the judge.  ;)

Ok here is what i have done:

-Fix the Gaps in the paint (quite tight but done  :))
-Fixed the wobbly line in the camera
-Fixed the mat at the southwest side
-Sharpened the image

The only problem i have is where do i put the image. I am quite new to the forums.  ???
