Looks very nice

But...
-You look as if you don't have a neck
-The arms look a bit stiff in the zoomed version, but they look ok in the 100x zoom one.
-The pants shape reminds me of the pants of another character sprite,,,can't remember though,,,,i think it's the indiana jones sprite from FOA. Anyhow, they look very nice

That's all

A very small paintover. Very small because I actually think your shading is quite good...

Changes:

- Added grey shading to hair, because it seemed strange just being black...
- Removed the strange green stuff on shirt, because I didn't know what it was...
- Added some very minor changes to shading on shirt. Now it is showing a little bit more of the shoulder muscles...

yeah, thats where the original pants did come from, i did a paintover, but i liked the look of it's general form, so i kept it. shame on me ;)

i guess the arms look stiff because they're pretty long, and since that's a sprite of me.. (i'm rather tall)

i changed the neck and some minor shadin (shoes, shirt):

edit:
i keep the green suff - it's printed on the shirt ;)
i'll have a look at the hair - but atm i'm quite satisfied with it. but propably you're right and it should be a bit lighter on the left side..

edit2:
oh, and btw, that orange on the shoes - it's the puma logo. i swear it's there. and in that color. i own the shoes :P

edit3:

got sideview? - yes! thanks.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/dasjoe/seite2.gif) 100% sized - 800% sized (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/dasjoe/seite2.gif)

Hello das. Stop shooting my face off. Here's an edit, illustrating what I'd do differently on this sprite. Yours is very good as it is, but I feel a more distinct lightsource, some tinting, more contrast and less similar shades do this more justice.

I always enjoyed this style as it reminds me of Indy from FOA and Project Igor etc  etc. My edit is now using 15 colours I think, which is way less and more managable from your multitude of similar shades. sprites that are made to be animated do not need many colours, otherwise they will prove difficult to handle.

I dunno.  I quite liked the look of the minimized sprite he originally posted.

I'm diggin' on the less colors, more contrast & calcium idea but the particular shades you used almost seems like MS-paint's inaccurate .gif conversion.  He's acquired quite a lot of earthy and metallic tones that make me think of post-apocalyptic armor .

I do thing you should lose the logo-ing though, Das.  It distracts from the drawing and is indistinguishable on that small of a sprite.  The green logo on the shirt (even if accurate) resembles nose-matter and the orange Puma stripes give the impression that you don't know what you're doing with coloring (though from this sprite it's quite obvious you do).

The neck's fix still doesn't quite show that he's got a neck.  I think Helm's technique of throwing it back with the contrast works a bit better.  Maybe if you just darkened the neck a bit?

Makes him look like a bum.

That's a really good paint-over, Helm. It's true it does make him look a bit like a bum, but it's nevertheless a great professional-looking sprite.

helm, that's hell of a sprite :D looks sweet.
but i try to keep my style, just fooling around.
i keep your edit for further reference. i guess i'll use some techniques you used on other sprites :)

and, i think for my first sprite its pretty wicked :)

anyway, i played a bit with it, reduced it to 20 colours, made the shirt more accurate (it's brown. dunno why it got green in the sprite)

so, here the (propably) final version:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/dasjoe/neues1.gif) and in small (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/dasjoe/neues1.gif) and again, original size (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/dasjoe/neues1.gif)

Besides the fact that the jaw doesn't line up on the two sprites, that's good enough for me.

er yeah. that's because the right sprite is shifted 1 px up. but why? heh, accident.

they're pretty lined up when their feet align properly. other thing is.. umm. perspective. yeah. guess that'll do it.

:)

btw, i'll stop shooting your face off when you'll join my team. or when you stop shooting at me everytime we meet. :)

if it's at +1 y offset, then the shoulders shoudn't like up perfectly. However this is a real nitpick, as it doesn't show at all.

His mouth and jaw are lower in the front view (and it's not a matter of sprite alignment, but pixelheight) as Helm mentioned, making him look quite different in the views.

The main problems in my opinion would be the neck and shoulders which make him look very tense.

Another thing is the shading, where you've pretty much restricted the shadow and highlight placement to the edges. This will make the edge of the character pop out, but the rest will remain flat.

Nice choice of pose though.

Holy poop, Scott... That is some old school stuff right there...

I think that is the last remnant of SCRAMM still on the internet... Mauve is gone, Worldcreator is gone, King Super is gone... But for some reason this site is still up

loominous, wow. thats a cool edit. i'll keep it to learn from.

but i'm nearly done with animating him, so i guess i'll only modify his face.
thank you guys for your replies. this thread may be closed now. :)
