Title: Need help drawing crystals
Post by: Arboris on Sat 11/04/2009 16:23:19
x1(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Crystals.gif)              x3 (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Crystals.gif)

2 props I've drawn. They're supposed to be crystals sitting a on a shelf looking all shiny and pretty.

But as you can see the first one looks more like a bowling ball or a globe and the second one looks like a christmas tree. I've fiddeled around with these for a while now and I can't seem to figure out what makes a crystal look like a crystal.

They look pretty good, IMO. I did some for fun, looking at some examples of crystals and crystal balls on google. Not great, but I tried to include some transparent, glowing qualities.

I think the problem with the ball was too big specular radius. Glass/crystal objects tend to have strong but small reflections of light instead of biiig spots. Evil catched that quite nicely in his edit :)

Thanks for the drawover Evil, the sphere does look alot better like that. It gives atleast the apearance of being a crystal globe.

I'll try to find a good referance picture that'll suit my needs for it :)
