Title: Need help improving low-res sprite
Post by: pslim on Mon 13/10/2008 21:40:48
Mostly I need help improving the body shape and stance, and in communicating the clothes better. He's supposed to be wearing Victorian-style flat-front trousers and suspenders, and the sleeves on his shirt are rolled up to the elbow. He's also intended to be fairly thin.

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

I think it looks good. Maybe you need to make his sleeves a bit shorter, he kinda looks like his arms in general are too short. and maybe remove the light pixels on the braces. But anything else looks pretty good how it is and fits your description of how you want him to look imo.

This looks good, I like him :)
Made a small paintover--no really drastic changes, but tweaks in leg position, foot size, and shoulder/hip width; more use of the dark colour on the shirt; removed dark pixels on the skin outlines.

My edit on the right:

Hope this helps!

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like he's arching his back backwards, which then puts his shoulders too far behind the plane of his body.

Hm, does he have a beard? Now it looks like he has red/brown hair and a grey beard...

Thanks for the comments everybody.

He has grizzled stubble, which I hope will be clearer on his portrait.

His shoulders were too far back, but I think that's largely addressed by MashPotato's edit.

I really loved the edit, btw, and I'm now in the process and incorporating it into the draft I have. I'll post the results when I get a chance.

Don't change him too much!

I think the only thing about him (the original and Mashs edit) is that I cant really tell where his eyes are, his jaw line, etc... I think you could up the contrast on his face just a little and still maintain the tone but also give him much more depth.

^^^ This applies only to the "small" version.

I've taken Questionable's advice and upped the contrast on the edges of the head slightly to read better at the original resolution.

And thanks ShonenAiGuy!
