Title: Need help with adding a gas cloud...
Post by: CoffeeBob on Fri 15/10/2004 20:47:54
I've been trying to add a gas-cloud to the back of this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/Largo/wondersoftwithtext.bmp) pic, but the result always looks crap-ass.
So I was wondering if anyone could help me with the gas-cloud.
Oh, and criticism on the pic is always welcome to, but I really need help with the gas cloud to make it better ;) .

How about adding 3d rendered cloud on top of it? I can do it for you if you want. Just need some directions (where to put it, color, intensity...)

Uh, sure. I don't really understand how you mean, but sure.
I would like one purple-like cloud at the left-down edge of it and one around the middle-top, above the WS text, thanks.

I went a slightly different direction with it.

I would lose the globe (or use something more photorealistic) if you want to use something like I created.

However, I think it looks better without the globe (just personal preference)

In my opinion the problem is, that as long as you paint stars that way, "realistic" parts like nebulae don't fit. It's very hard if not impossible to paint nebulae that way.
So I tried to make it a little more realistic.
Here a planet is still left and I added comets - the logo looked like that. There is something like a circular galaxy or a circular cloud in the background.

wow, so far only been paintover on the title screen

i think the best way is to make a green circle and add it into the picture with a little transparency*

* sorry for my English

WEll...the paint overs look nice but they both changed your style a lot.  Stick with your style, it's what you're comfortable with.

First order of business is to greatly reduce the number of stars...and make them vary from really far away to a maximum of what you have now.  Make them go down to the size of one almost black pixel -- you can use size and brightness to indicate distance.  They can hav a white dot in the center also.  Take a look at how they do stars in Major Stryker or something.

I don't know how to do a nebula in that style...but usually the best way to do gas clouds or smoke or fog or anything of that nature is just to draw the general shape and then go crazy with the smudge tool on a large fuzzy brush.

The paint-overs are awesome.
I really like the look of the background intermalte made.
But I like the edit of the text that Darth did.
I'd say a combination between those two would be exactly what I'm looking for.
And some more stars to the back like Darth did.
