Title: Need help with shading in a cell (prison)
Post by: Sam. on Sun 18/07/2004 21:01:24
I have this room, its supposed to be a holding cell. It is lit by a single strip light with a CCTV in the corner.I really can't get the shading right and i thought this would be the place for help so here it is

Well, fluorescent lights don't light like that.  It don't look too bad, but it could be better.

add some scartches on the wall like IIIII with a slash through it, maybe some leg irons on the wall, or a few cracks

- holding/interrogation rooms are usually a green color (hides blood)
- if the chair in yours was the prisoner's chair the camera would be in front of it
- I added a table
- added some more shadows
- added textures to the ceiling and floor
- added some trim around the base of the walls
- there's usually a one way mirror in these rooms, but mirrors are tricky in games.

Hope it helps!

The walls are a bit annoying. I mean, they are empty. There is no wear and tear on them! Wear and tear is important. you might want to put a mirror on one of the walls, as well as the camera.

And what ever you do, don't use the photoshop lighting filter (looking at clueless!!!)!!!

I like darths camera. it shows depth.

wow, thanks guys. Clue,  I like your shading but not the lighting effect. It has a reall wierd shape. I am going to work on darths to give it a stamp of mine. I think the mirror idea is really good. Will be back soon with an update

just a small note on darths edit, the camera wouldnt be completely black as the room is too well lit.

what gives you that idea? If a room is bright the objects my be darker but they wont be competely black.

maybee the camera is black becouse it is oroginaly BLACK. All cameras aren't grey you know.  But a little red light might fix the whole thing.

How 'bout this ...

The camera is actually behind the mirror in the dark viewing room where 2 police man stand watching the interogation.  (There's not light in the room)
