Title: Need some help for low-res female
Post by: Archangel (aka SoupDragon) on Wed 13/08/2003 23:26:17
I'm seriously stuck here. The character I'm trying to create is a young female psychiatrist, fairly sexy in a sinister kind of way. All I can come up with is someone who looks like a lost granny. And how on earth do you draw breasts at 30x60 pixels? Please help!

Nice character, but you're right, she doesn't look like what you had in mind.
Try a different pose maybe? Also, her hands seem to close to he body, which makes her look lost IMO.

The feet of course wouldn't be facing the sides.
I like the shading, but I think the breasts need a little more of it ;).

When I think sexy, I think boobs and miniskirts. Well I gave her breasts and a toob top (I think thats what it's called). As for the legs I gave her a skirt and longer legs. The arms a little messed but I like how it turned out...

lol evil. As awesome as that is, she's not much of a psychiatrist...

I think so. I dont see why not. Just because she is beautyful and dresses 'nice' doesnt mean she cant be a psychiatrist. Well, maybe I'll give her a jacket...

She's working, therefore she needs a long skirt, I'm afraid.

How about this? I haven't seen a psychologist sexy, sinister or otherwise, but I though Evil's looked a bit dressy. Mine doesn't look very sinister though. The hands are a bit odd, but the dress is respectable.

I gave the second one a clipboard (she has a job to do) and tried to make the face a little more feminine: Smaller nose and lips. I'm sure you could tweak her expression to make her look more sinister, or give her darker hair (like evil Willow).

I think the trick to drawing women low-res is to give them hips and a feminine stance - it's tricky but important, I'm afraid her legs look a bit too skinny.  It is very difficult to draw breasts, so just shade underneath them rather than draw them in.

No, no, I think that the sprite Evil made will work fine with a little tweaking: make it so that the dress doesn't slant at the bottom. I think that will make it more classy. By the way, The psychiatrist in HBO's The Sopranos wears short skirts like that.

PS: how's PoC coming along, Archangel?

EDIT: Wow! That looks awesome Ali! I think that's the look you should use, Arch. Hmmm... she definitely looks sexy :).. Perhaps she would look more sinister with dark hair (but then she might not look as sexy  :-\) ?

If they dress sexy their clients keep coming back... :)

basically i gave her some curves, gave her some eyes, gave her a neck, gve her some lips, a better dress, fishnets, a cigarette, and a diamond choker.  i tried to keep some of the colours the same, but some weren't so sexy so i changed them.

your original sprite's shoulders were hunched over, and her arms were hanging in front of her.  not a sexy pose. think about what parts of a girl you like and draw what you'd like to see.

and as far as sinister goes, the eyes are the key really, the clothing just helps.

now some of you may say she doens't look like a psychiatrist, but short of putting a beard, glasses and a cigar in her mouth reclined in a chair taking notes while someone else lies on the couch, i don't think you can "draw" a psychiatrist.

besides, it's a sexy, SINISTER, head shrink!

actaully a physchiratist can be a physchologist and vice versa. one's simply the study of the brain, and the former tries to heal it's illness.   there's only one thing they have in common.  penises.   i mean a couch!

that's one going out to all you freudians out there.

I think that Ali´s sprite is the one which could work better. Don´t missunderstand me, evil´s sprite is ok, and Taryuu is perfect... for a WWI spy girl sprite. No offence mate, she does not seem a physi..c...ist.... whatever!

BTW, I don´t like to critisice without showing an image of what I am talking  about, but I am writing this at a very early hour, so, I don´t really know what I am talking about. ;D

Wait for my version this afternoon.

Here re some versions I came up with:

Cartoony:

More realistic:

Process:

Main modifications:

(i) lowered shoulders. Made her look less tense/shy

(ii) narrowed her head horizontally. Less of a balloon face

(iii) let her arms hang more freely. Less tense

(iv) placed feet closer together. Less masculine

Hope it helps

Here is my version... A heavily modified Loominous one, (Thanks Loom)

BTW... I allways use LEC colours for skins... They´re so much pink, IMO that colour you use Arch, is too "yellowish". I´ve had used your colours, but think of it.

Faralander can you post up those lec skin colours?  if you have them lying around i'd appreciage it.  and i love the hairstyles you and loominus got.  for the life of me and couldn't draw a bun last night!

I still think Ali's example is the best.. Sexy and professional.

The examples that loominus posted are good, but they don't really have much personality. I think you could make Ali's example more sinister just by changing the eyes and hair (maybe I'll post an example).

WOW you people are all awesome! All of you. I think Loominous got the character I was looking for down almost exactly... but Ali's girl is so damn cute I've got to use her somewhere... probably as the PA (personal assistant) to the psych. Thanks all for your wonderful help!

Maybe I'm too late, but here are a few examples:

I changed the skin color, gave her some of those creepy looking leather boots, and tried to give some of them cat-like eyes. I also tried a few different hair colors..

Those are all great ben I love what you've done with the heads.

They're definitely more sinister. The way they're all standing in line kind of makes them look like a freaky army of young professional women. With poisonous clipboards.

I like what ben has done to the spite's face. I think the eyes are a good idea.

although, the last two from the right look kinda creepy and snakish. but the first three are very nice

good work guys

*great round of applause to everyone*
Wow, this thread is great so far! Kick-ass work from everyone. I'd give it a try, but seeing that much more capable people are hard at work already, I'll just sit back and enjoy the show...hmmm, where did I put those popcorn...

[EDIT:] Oh, by the way, maybe I should remember my crits: For a "sinister" character you have truly selected some un-sinister colors. A suggestion: Paler skin, darker hair, darker clothes. She's just too bright and happy dancing-through-the-meadow right now.

Xadhoom... perfect!

But... that sprite would look fu*ing odd in Archangel´s game, don´t you think?  :)

Man, it is difficult to help people with totally different styles than yours... My own sprite is miles away of the sprite I should have drawn without seeing Arch´s model, but we must think in something that could fit in his game.  :)

Ciao.

Well I was hoping to draw a version of this character and have it posted up here, but I'm going away for a week tomorrow and by the time I get back this thread will have fallen way off the bottom of the page, so it won't really be worth it. But once again, thanks everyone for your amazing contributions. I've learnt loads :D
